Upshift when you want, downshift when you want. (Just don't let it run past redline.)

The computer will not let you upshift if the RPMs are too low to move up a gear and won't let you downshift if the RPMs are too high to move down a gear. I'm sure others have more technical ways of describing how it works, but just know that you can't really hurt the car except by running it into red continually. Shift at low RPMs for better gas mileage, higher RPMS for more power and more speeding tickets.

What!? You let go of gas when shifting? You shouldn't! That's the good part of the Sport shift. You get instantaneous power by a flick of your wrist w/o having have to let go of gas! IMHO.

I thought that if you leave the your foot on the gas when you shift than that would be considered powershifting like when you drive a stick. Does that harm the engine or tranny?

Nope, it is exactly the same as driving using the 'normal' auto transmission, except you're telling the tranny when to shift instead of it relying on the computer to make those decisions.

Well, if you release the gas between shifts, theres a certain way to do it, and from what i see, doesn't slow me down much..you have to do it a certain way, I can't explain it..But i will tell you, ever since I got my Miata, there's no substitution for a real manual..

Thumbs down

what the hell?!?!?!? release the gas during shifts? you may as well step on the e-brake and release that gradually and pretend that is the clutch. IT IS NOT A MANUAL SO DON'T PRETEND IT IS ONE otherwise you'll just end up looking like you're shifting jerky on the road like an idiot in an automatic car.

Yea, especially in a five mile line of stop and go traffic, that's when I really love the manual transmission cars.
