Sport Shifting question/idea

is it possible to reconfigure the ECU or do anything to allow you to use the SS but not have it automatically shift out of 1st gear for you? i think it would be a nice feature if possible....

Ive always wondered this too. I hate how it shifts form first to second on its own.

For me, if Im not 100% sure if buddy is going to race. I throw it in D1 and gate shift the gears myself. Had to use it tonight against an rsx lol

ss is to slow to race with and i don't know if that would be possible, if you are racing then use gateshift.

not all replies are directed at one person- more written for the general readers
gate shifting 1-2 is stupid-no torque in 1st at high rpm
if you are not racing then leave in D5 and enjoy

Not only the autoshift from 1 to 2 but the inability to down shift to 1 is bugging me. I once had a 08 TSX for a day when i brought my car in for servicing. I loved the way I could manu shift that car. Much more precise and steady than our TL's. Gotta love when u drop it in 1st n the care just flies ...

my 99 didnt auto shift into 2nd.
if i stomped on it in 1st and left it it would've blown my motor lol.

now it did auto shift down if i stopped at a red light.

i think its stupid not being able to down shift to 1st or to be unable to leave it in first if you want to casually make it to 3500 rpms.

yup

If you are racing leave it in sport shift. It shifts 1st to 2nd at the perfect time. Gate shifting relies on you and if you miss the timing it will hurt your run dramatically. Ive done races with using gs, and ones with ss against the same car. SS pulled further every time.

yes in normal situations D5 is all you need- but there are exceptions: in stop and go traffic use D4 so it doesnt hunt for 5th all the time

there is a proper way to use vtec and SS shifting, learn how by attending a local roadrace `track day school` in your TL and learn all about the car and yourself at the limits
200- 250 bucks well spent!
