Post spilled coffee on shifter gate

I wanna remove that stuff so I can get in there and clean out the mess I made. I did a search an from Jens answer, it seems that it would require a lot of work and some pieces are fragile...do you think I should take it to the service dept and ask for their help? I remember something similar like this happening to another member, and his shifter started getting sticky if I can recall correctly.

How badly did you spill yours? Those worthless cup holders...looks cool when you press the button to open em, but they dont hold jack. My coffee tipped over once, but luckily only a few drops got in there. I wiped with a kleenex. Then, like the dope that I am, I was tempted by some curvy roads and threw it into shiftmode...went a lil too fast and it splashed the coffee in there. I went thru all the gears trying to wipe out all that I could. I'm afraid theres more that I couldnt get to.

Youn think it would work if I replaced the original shift gate with a manual transmission leather shift boot??? Would it fit with some minor modifications to the boot???

Thumbs down

Gotta admit that those 'cup holders' are pretty lame, although the console cup holder is great for stashing cell phones. I guess that's why I don't allow drinks in the car. Anyone know of a decent cup holder that actually works???

The fake aluminum plastic trim just pops off... I dunno about cleaner under everything else - I'd make Acura do it.

Don't f*ck with it...take it to the service dept. although they will charge you. My wife spilled Coke on mine and didn't tell me. As time went by the stuff got sticky and When I tried to use SS it would stick and it was hard to push up and down. When I got the VAFC installed they took apart the center console and still couldn't get to the shifter part cuz we couldn't figure out which pieces came out.

So the aluminum comes out easily? How do I take it off? I didnt spill a lot, just *splashed* I guess. If after taking off the trim and I see there was alot more than I thought, then I'll take to acura for sure.

Chances are you spilled it into the shifter. The silver (aluminum) lining is a b!tch to take off and after that you have to get into the shifter part to wipe off all the crap. Personally, take it to the dealer IMO don't risk snapping any of the plastic pieces.
