Speed limiter on TL's?
I'm aware of a rev limiter on our cars, but do they also have a speed limiter? If so, what's the max speed?
I guess I could risk my license and figure it out for myself, but I assume there's plenty of people on this board who've WOT their cars to top speed....

Statistics say that the car tops out at 149 mph. I saw on here that some people reached 130s. As far as a limit, as in all US cars (I'm not too sure about this), the gov't limit is 155 mph

Correct me if I'm wrong but you can calculate the max theoretical speed of your car knowing max RPM, the ratio of highest gear, final gearing and tire size.
The TL has no speed limiter; you are limited by RPM and other inefficiencies.

TL-S has a governer limiting the car to 149mph... same with the CL-S... not sure about the Premiums as they have less power and lower speed ratings on their tires.....
You may be able to get the speedometer to say you're going higher, but the car is limited at 149mph. Keep in mind that the speedometer has a % that it is off by, and the faster you go, the more incorrect it is. At 149 mph it can be off by as much as 3-4%..... so it will say you're doing 150 something, but you're only doing high 140's......

Juniorbean, correct me if I am wrong but I thought the TL/CL and TL-S/CL-S have the same limiter up to 149 mph.
As for myself, I have reached 147 mph racing a volvo s60.

I had my TL-P up to 147 also on I59 at 4am. A cars top speed is not only determined by the max RPM combined with gear ratios. If that were the case you could theoretically build a childs tricycle with the correct gearing so that your 5yr old could break the sound barrier . What you forgot to mention is that a HUGE HUGE HUGE player in the "non-restricted" top speed factor is resistance and drag. The more resistance or the more drag, less speed. Yours cars horsepower is overridden as a certain speed (which is far lower than the vaccum-theory speed of max RPM + top gear ratio) by the resistance/drag's "added weight" to the car. No longer can your car fully utilize those roughly 225+ horses for all out accelaration anymore, they're being slaughtered trying to compensate for all that physics-induced "weight". But to stay on subject, the TL/CL TL-S/CL-S all have the same "149mph" restriction. Depending on your tires size, you could in reality limit yourself before or free yourself to go faster than that. Just thought a little physics could be thrown into that

unless you're modded, or going downhill, or with the wind, or some divine power was assisting you...then you couldn't have been pulling much, just a little haha

It tops out at 155mph around 6k rpm in 4th gear if I remember correctly. I only did it once and never got there again. The closes I got back up there was around 145mph or so.

145ish in my TL-P w/CAI. I also cut vents into the foglight cover to open it up a little better at high speed. Ran out of road/got nervous cause I needed new tires on the front. Pretty friggin sweet though.

the volvos might look good outside but at the autoshow i sat in the s40 i think..... (and a 335 and the A4 and a whole bunch other cars) and i just didnt get the feeling that i get with the 2nd gen TL something about hte way our dash wraps around u and flows so nicely... the adjustable arm rest is amazing also.. the stupid volvo has a tiny one so u cant have ur hand on the stick and on the arm rest at the same time really pissed me off lol
