Red face Speaker replacement?

Ive been searching around the forums, and i have noticed that there isn't a DIY on replacing the door speakers. I know that the whole bose system makes doing anything a pain in the ass, but i really want to replace the door speakers in my 2003 tl

I already replaced my head unit with a pioneer avh model, and it has the sub wired into it somehow.(Im not sure how it was done, A wiring guy did it for me)

I would like to put in Kicker 11ks525 5 1/4 speakers in all four doors, but crutch field.com says they don't fit. Other sites such as sonicelectronix however say that those speakers do fit.The issue with this is the clearance inside the door, so could someone help clarify this for me?

Link to speakers:
Amazon.com: Kicker 11KS525 5.25" 2-way Car Audio Speakers (Pair) KS525: Car Electronics Amazon.com: Kicker 11KS525 5.25" 2-way Car Audio Speakers (Pair) KS525: Car Electronics

I would be getting the speakers, brackets, and connectors from cruchfield and just plugging them in, making a spacer if i need it.

If there is anything I'm overlooking in this process please let me know!!

You need 6.5" speakers unless you use an adapter. And you will need a small spacer for the magnet to clear the glass (depending on depth, most will need it I believe), but mine fits with a spacer with just enough to let the door panel go back on. I have this: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...BL-MS-62C.html

5 1/4 (5.25) will fit right into the OEM Plastic Adapters with some MINOR MODS = Easiest to Fit, almost Plug & Play.

6.5 will forcibly need a Custom Made Adapter = HEAVY MOD = Will need to make an Adapter not so big that could hit the door panel and not too shallow that will make the magnet hit the glass. My C5s needed almost 1" adapter and still too close to the glass for my taste also the door panel had to be cut.

Those Kickers don't seem to deep but the cone metal structure seems to be in a tight angle so for that reason alone perhaps you cannot re-use the OEM Plastic Adapters since the OEM Speakers aren't deep at all.. Most 5 1/4s (5.25) fit right in tough so who knows? If you are handy anything is possible.. Worst Case scenario is to make a custom half inch adapter.

Once i get the car back from the shop and make sure the tranny is running well, I'm going to begin to work on it. I think I'm going to do a write up on the whole thing.

Hopefully the 5 1/4 with a bracket won't be too much of a challenge

It depends on the speaker, i replaced my fronts with 6.5's and they bolted right up perfect fitment. Plus sound wise 6.5 > 5.5

What was the mounting info of your speaker. Depth? You reused stock plastic? Which speakers did you put in?

I used Alpine Type R coaxial speakers, this was maybe 5 years ago. Now for my current 2G TL-S (same model i put the Alpine's into) I have a set of Pioneer D series components which are also 6.5 inch so i dont know if these will be plug and play or i'll have to do a little work to make them fit but overall i know it won't be a problem, its not hard. When you're amping the speakers a 5.25 is on the small side, you'll get a more full sound out of a 6.5/6.75 speaker so it is well worth making it fit.

btw its pretty cool how you have the stock sub wired into your head unit, id love to get that done in mine. So by replacing the stock speakers and getting an amp for them you're pretty much good to go.

Well i just found out today that my sub hasn't been working. The bass in my car is way too good though for the stock bose with the eq bypassed.
Whatever though thats just a new project i guess (y)

Im not going to put an amp in, but the kickers im looking at are meant to supplement a sub so they dont need all that much power. My hu does 50w per speaker

I had a place wire in my sub to my Alpine head unit a few months after I got my 03 TL. Cost me $225 because of labor and it barely did anything. With that money I could've put in a separate sub. I ended up spending about $150 on a kicker procomp 8" sub and a Pioneer MRP-350 amp and wiring kit and just put it in where the factory sub was. So much better sound. That bad boy can pump. I eventually had ground problems with the sub and haven't had time to fix it... stupid thing.

How to keep your factory sub with aftermarket headunit:
https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-navigation-22/keeping-factory-sub-when-adding-aftermarket-headunit-99-03-tl-326253/

You can use this link to get your sub to work. I did this a few months ago after installing a new Headunit 6 months before. Works just fine for me

Yeah i planned on doing it soon. Just not when its 10 degrees . Once i get the sub working. Ill decide if i want to replace that too. I think im going to just do speakers for now though. Im not huge on extreme bass. Clarity is more important
