Post Sounds from the Intake

After some BIG help from BIGMONKEY (BTW THANKS!!!!) I finally installed my custom intake. After I first drove it, I realized it sounds like a louder CL-S when you stomp the gas. I dunno if I like it, it might need some getting used to. My question is, at idle and also when I stomp on the gas, I hear a sucking noise, sorta like a whineing sound. Is that normal? Haven't really noticed any gains either.

Yes, that is absolutely normal. That's the sound of the intake sucking in more air! It's all good.

As for getting used to the sound... there is some compromise you must make to make your car go a little faster. IMHO, I would like my Luxury TL Sedan to be quiet. If I had a sports compact on the other hand, I wouldn't mind making it loud.

I didn't like the sound at first but I got used to it. It's great with the comptech exhaust. At cruising speeds you dont even hear it. It's not really that noisy unless at WOT anyway. When i see ricers i just drop it into first let them hear the wrath of vtec! Sometimes I wish it was even louder! Whether you like it or not all depends on your mood when you're driving i guess. If you want it to be silent, at least you dont have the resonation from the exhaust when applying just a bit of gas. The comptech exhaust makes a low growl when the engine is all warmed up while applying just a bit of gas. and no prob 4 the body kit group buy, i hope u like it.

g-d, i hated it at first... i thought my car was about to explode or over heat... i thought something was wrong... i tried staying as far possible from 2500/3000 rpms... which was hard, so then i got used to it...
at first it made whinning/whisteling noises, now it sounds tight as f**k...
you'll love it trust me

Yeah I thought the novelty of the sound ruled when I first got it. Its phat ass, the whooshy sound you hear when you floor it is sweet.

The insulation and sound dampening on the inside of the car is really pretty awesome, either that or I've just gotten so used to the sound, ppl tell me my engine is pretty loud when I rev it up... I guess its time for another mod.

I love the intake though, its terrific.

I feel you bro! Before the Greddy and headers, I loved the sound of my Intake, especially when you gun it. Now I can't even hear the freakin thing cuz the Greddy's. I got use to the Intake sound right away cuz I loved it so no adjustments were called for. I thought I noticed power gains with just the intake. When my engine is cold I hear a resonating sound, is this right?

I got the Weapon R intake installed first and it made the same sucking sound, then wit h the Greddy exhaust it was kinda loud, but the sound grew on me, but then again, after getting my stereo system installed, I just turn the music up loud and i dont' hear a sound from the outside at all.

the sound becomes much much better... growls instead of screams.
maybe it's just cause it grew on me, but i doubt it. even my g/f hated it the first day, then rode again in it when she returned from her family trip and loved it.
so a girl likes it... so will you bro.
don't worry, let it sit, and kick in some, and you'll see as streeteffectz said to me, "it completes the engine."

Waz up Mafioso, it was great chilling with you and bdimc2001 and your boy on Saturday. Damn, it was cold as hell outside. But the chinese food warmed up my stomach though. Sorry I couldn't help you but I did learn how to take off the bumper. Whenever you want to chill, just holla.

I recorded my AEM Short RAM while I was driving. This is from a rolling 5mph in 1st gear up to 3rd gear when I let off.
www.cox-internet.com/bcb8996/AEMShortRAMIntake1st-3rd.mp3

I had to use a crappy mini recorder so the quality is pretty crappy.

nope no whining when air is being sucked in. It did make a loud high pitched squeak when a leaf with a small hole decided to hang out on my filter element though...boy was that annoying...

Cool

I like the whistling sound. It sounds like the turbo on the 18-wheeler my dad used to drive. I couldn't hear it when I had the Comptech exhaust on there but once I put the stock exhaust on there, I could hear the whistle! I am anxious to see how it sounds with the Mugen exhaust!

Cool

we're talking about two different types of whistling i think...The whistle from a turbo is sweet, as it the sound of the intake sucking in fresh cool air on a cold fall morning...I love that sound...The whistling from that leaf was painful to the ears...
