Angry Someone please help!

I'm now on tranny 2 and only 2,200 miles. On my way to work this morning my front end started making a humming sound, no matter what speed I drive. As you all know I just had the tranny replaced..WTF!

At first I thought I may have lost a weight and thrown a tire off balance. But this would not cause a humming sound it would cause vibration. Right?

So, then I thought tranny problem. While driving I put it in SS and changed gears and no difference in the pitch of the sound.

Then I put the car in neutral while doing 50 and the sound did not go away. Which leaves me to believe its probably not the tranny.

The only other thing I can think of is the wheel bearings.

I called Ac Dealership and they said they've never heard of such a thing.

Any Thoughts?

Ya that's F###in hilarious right. D***head.

Of course I've heard of the breakin period. I drove it like a baby for the first 1000.

I thought this site was to help people.
It seems that whenever I or some other newbie posts a question because we're not educated as much as some of the people on the site all we get is A$$holes like yourself making jokes. When all we're doing is looking for help.

If you can't help then keep your F***in D***head comments to yourself A$$hole.

Hey relax, pal. No one killed you mother... I hope. I was laughing at Chapstick's comment, why are you attacking me? I know you are frustrated because you already replaced your tranny but don't take your frustrations out on me. What kind of "help" are you looking for anyway? Want me to do a long distance diagnostic on your tranny?? Cool it, I hope all goes well with your situation.

Hey 03TLTYPES, relax. Don't let chapstick get to you. 99% of us here are very friendly and want to help whenever possible. If there's nothing nice to say, people usually don't say anything. But you always have a bad apple here and there. I almost let him get to me in a previous post too, but I'm too good for that. Sorry to here about your tranny problems, but I think it's just too ambiguous for us to diagnose your problem. I suggest you bring that up to your dealer again. If they don't listen to your problem, file a complaint. The Acura dealership I go to is very friendly and willing to accomodate my needs. Knock on wood that my tranny is running smoothly, but if I have problems, I have no doubt they would treat me the way I deserve to be treated after spending $32,000. Good luck dude and happy posting.

Switching into Neutral and still hearing it is the only thing that makes me think not-tranny.

Did they do any other work on the car since tranny #1 died? Any aftermarket work done?

It might be a wheel bearing. If possible try to notice if it gets more noticable as the weight of the car shifts to a particular side (i.e. a gentle curve). If it is, that will indicate which side it's on.

Hey Phantom I appolgize for fllipin my lid but I felt there was no reason for you to laugh at the situation.

It was more or less directed at chapstick (whom, by the way, I have a pretty good idea who that is.)
Chapstick, you know who this is so back the h3ll off. Your name is not that clever. It's not that hard to put 2 and 2 together.

And yes Phantom, I was venting my frustration about my car.

Also, venting for some of the A$$hole comments that have been made to some of the posts I've wrote and for that matter, posts that everyone has wrote. If it were up to me I would get rid of half the people on this forum.

I was looking for replies from people who may have had past experience with a problem of this type or from someone who has knowledge of auto mechanics. NOT a long distance diagnosis.

As for Copland and Goaub, Thank you. Those are perfect examples of the types of replies I was looking for (advise).

This is a great site but like Axleback said there are always bad apples here and there. This site just so happens to have an over abundance of them. I'm sure everyone can agree with me.

As for my ride. I took it to the dealership and had a tech drive it and he heard the sound and is pretty sure it is a wheel bearing. Or both for that matter. They said they've had quite a few probs with WB's coming from the suppliers who fail to grease them before sealing them.

Also spoke to the Owner and he said he will go to bat for me and try to get me a new car. We'll see. Supposidly there will be some Acura reps, whom are familliar with all the problems I've had, in the dealership tomorrow.

Thanks.

I'm on your side 03...

03TLSTYPES,
I know exactly how p!ssed off you must feel to go through the amount of new car grief that you have and then have some A**hole make some wisea** comment about it. I'm referring to Chapsh!t of course... You and I have both been through similar major problems with our new rides. It's not too hard to guess that N3W is now Chapstick by the number and type of posts made, and the registered date, etc. I let him get to me also, but try and ignore these type of idiots. The more you respond, the more fun they have taunting you...

As for your problem. It's sad to think that Acura would have non greased wheel bearings right off the bat. If so, it goes back to my statements of how lacking their quality control must be@!#$%^ Who put the bearings in on the assembly line? I would think that if you were in neutral and had this humming sound that was coming from the front, I would try to listen carefully to see if it was more prominent from one side or the other. It's hard to think that both bearings would suddenly go out exactly at the same time? I would think that if it was wheel bearing or any other wheel rotation problem, that the pitch would still change when you change speeds. As you coast and slow down, does the sound change? If not, when you are in neutral coasting, and you rev the engine, does the sound change? This should help to tell if it is indeed wheel or CV joint noise vs. engine or engine drive belt assessory noise. Maybe it's as simple as the fact that you picked up a big rock or punctured your tire with a bolt that is humming on the pavement? Is it brake calipers/pads dragging? Are the wheels really hot after driving without any major braking? Is the antilock brake system screwed up and performing a constant check? It does make this short growling sound right after startup and lasts for a second or so when you first drive off. I guess it should be easy enough to tell if the wheel bearings are dry when the Acura tech pulls the wheels off. They could also check the brake parts then as well.

Sorry I'm not much more help. BUT I DO FEEL YOUR PAIN... and I know you just want somebody to listen to your situation. Jokes and bogus wild goose chases are not what this board is about! Be firm with the owner of your dealership, and let him know your discontent and the fact that you aren't going away easily. In these extreme cases, somebody has to step up and make things right... and that somebody shouldn't be the customer! Remind them of their TLC policy! I was very fortunate after Acura tech support couldn't diagnose my new car engine problems and the owner actually gave me a NEW car. Only problem is, now I'm trying to track down a ventilation fan whistle/howling noise. behind the dash. I am beginning to believe that it is coming from the windshield seal. GREAT! I'm on number two car, and it's still not fun to drive yet At least the engine and tranny do seem fine though, (so far) 250 miles... It does handle sweet and smooth... NO RATTLES! (yet). I guess I'd rather put up with a wind whistle through my dash vents than marbles in my valve covers anyday! But still... Acura needs to improve it's quality control.... I NEVER had to take my Camry back to the dealer for anything...

Hang tough, although that's easier said than done, This board will help you get through it!

You need to give us more detail than just a humming noise, does it get slower or quieter as you slow down? etc.

The sound does change as I speed up or slow down. It's deffinitly not the engine or trans. I'm positive it's the wheel bearings or cv joint. It's hard to tell which side the noise is coming from. I say driver side and all passengers say passenger side.

I'll soon find out. I'm expecting a call from the owner any minute with either a fixed cr or a new car. Hopefully a new one.

Good to see that you've cooled down, but I have to say that you fly off the handle way to often. You start with banning 1/2 the people from the forum, but you yourself seem to get hyped too often. I think you got pissed when people didn't respond to your post fast enough. This is an enthusiast forum, 1st and foremost, people can say what they feel.

Twong, this is the first time I've posted anything that has expressed frustration. I understand people can say what they feel. My frustration not only represented my posts but I was, in a way sticking up for some other newbies who have been treated in the same fasion.
No question is a dumb question, especially if you do not know alot about the car, however some people on this site do not hesitate to let people know they feel someone has posted what they consider a dumb question.

Point being if someone thinks someone is asking a dumb question that person, I would hope knows the answer or atleast some has some advise, and should post an answer or advise and not jokes and stupid comments.

If you feel I've flown off the handle, please post a link. I'm pretty sure this is the first time.

Thanks,

Sounds like those parts got damaged in the Tranny replacement. With the dealership batting average like that, and they keep up the shody work,,,you may end up with a lemon? Hard to Say?

Good Luck

Damn, we've got a winner in the category...."Up and coming Joseph Stalin/Adolph Hitler of the Acura-TL board!"

I couldn't agree more.

03TLTYPES, you have every right to be pissed at your car and Acura, and hell if it were me, I'd ask for a new ride! But take that attitude somewhere else or shove it! Part of the entire culture of these boards is innocent ribbing. Are you going to get mad at me for declaring you the winner above?!?!???

Not mad at all, actually laughing.
There is an old term that says,"If it does not apply let it fly" Everyone here knows who th jacka$$e$ are on this forum so if you did not post stupid $hit you should not take offense to the above message.

No disrespect intended for those who take this forum seriously.
It's a great forum and I learn a few new things everytime I log in.

But if you don't agree with me saying there is a lot of times where people should just keep there comments to them selves, maybe you haven't read to much on this site.

I totally get your point, 03

I agree that there is a time for good natured fun and ribbing, and there's a time for understanding.
If I was on my second tranny, or in my case, my second car and was still having major troubles, I would be P!ssed, and I would not take kindly to people taking it lightly! Some of us have to work for a living... and to cut loose with $33K for something that turns out to be more grief than fun, can make one very uptight. When that occurs, what that person needs at that time, is to just be able to vent... THIS BOARD IS THERAPY sometimes...

Hang in there O3, I can only recall you losing your cool, last night when it was justified...

Good luck! Hopefully a time will come when you CAN laugh about this matter...
