Someone hit me and RAN!!!(I got him tho)
I was on the way to my buddy's house (who happens to own a very nice 2003 Accord V6) to pick him up so we can go see Wedding Crashers. Well as I'm turning left this kid in a Lumina blows through a stop sign and hits me in the back. My car spins like a 180 or 360 or 720 (couldnt tell) while it was spining I shifted into SS and jammed it into first spun the tire and controlled the spin so I was facing him when the spinning was over. The guy didn't even stop and fled the scene! While still in SS I chase the bastard down. He seems to be trying to lose me but I stayed with him. It really wasn't to hard to stay with him because a) my TL is 10 times faster/better then his POS and b) he was doing a crappy job of getting away. As I followed him we eventuly got to a stop light and he had a nice big Titan sitting infront of him. As he was stuck between my TL and a Titan I got my Blue-Tooth Headset and called 911 and recited the license plate. They told me to pulll over to the side of the road and I did. Not one minute into the call I was told that they appreheanded the individual and will have a police officer come to me. While I waited I got out and checked the damage. To my suprise my baby wasn't damaged that bad I had a crack in the bumper and thats about it. It felt much worse then it turned out to be! I was like "Wow this is why I bought a Japanese Luxurey Car, solid as a rock" Well I speak to the officer and they take the report. I told them the whole story but didnt remember what street I got hit. So I show the officer by pulling up the Navigation system and scrolling down the street until I find the intersection where I was hit. The officer writes down the info from the Navigation Screen and finishes the report. I then ask about the other driver, I was informed that the other driver was under the influence of drugs (possibly Marijuana) and possibly alchohol and that they are charged not only for Evading an Accident and going through a stop sign, but also a DUI. The kid got his car towed and from what I saw when they passed me his car looked pretty bad. From that point my night was ruined. I ended up going to my friends house and telling him the story. We ended up not going to the movie. I then called my folks and asked about our lawyer to see if I should take this guy to court for mental anguish and loss of resale value (I'm gonna buy a new TL later this year was gonna use this as a trade in) I'm gonna be talking to my Insurance company tomorow and report this incident. Just wanted to share my story and get some feedback.

You probably won't get anything for mental anguish or loss of resale value. You are only entitled to your damaged vehicle repair bill plus loss of use (rental). Also, if you were injured from the accident, you can persent a bodily injury claim against his insurance company. If he is uninsured, you can present a uninsured motorist bodily injury claim against your own insurance.
By the way, Wedding Crashers was hilarious. Got free preview tickets on Thursday night......you have to go see it.

Great job on catching that little fucker. I think if i was to chase someone and actually caught that guy who hit me, I'd go crazy and there would probably be fists thrown from me, whether I won or not.
Drinking and driving is bad enough, but MJ and driving.... Bad News written all over it

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah Im gonna see Wedding Crashers today and then prolly Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. About taking the turd to court I'm going to talk to my lawyer about it. A few years ago another friend of mine hit this girl in a Jeep with his Escort. She claimed mental anguish and loss of resale. She told the police she wasn't injured. Well, She ended up getting $25k-$50k from my friends insurance company and my buddies insurance sky-rocketed. Mind you my friend didn't leave the accident and he wasn't under the influence of anything. I hope I get somthing out of it, as I'm really concerned/paranoid about driving now (will hopfully go away in a few days) and I'm really concerned about loss of resale value as when I went to trade in my Civic which had a value of $5k if not for the damage I recieved(and repaird) when I got hit by a tractor trailer a few years ago. The car itself was fine but the tractor trailer destroyed my door but the accident alone brought the resale value down. I asked the appraiser at Acura why the low trade in (<$1000...don't remember but I was insulted as my Civic was otherwise perfect) He said it was due to the accident and that it brings the cars value immedietly down to >$1000. Well, I ended up selling the Civic after I got the TL for $3000, but still lost $2000 over if I tried to trade it in.

Accidents happen. That's why it's called an accident. Just be glad that you didn't suffer any personal injuries, and thank whichever God in your religion that you didn't get there 3 seconds later, because otherwise the guy would've hit you squarely in the side of the car, not the rear bumper.

Im gonna do what I have to do. And If I sue I go after the insurance company not the kid personally. Besides after being arrested for A)Being under the influence B)Going through a stop sign and C) Hit and Run, his insurance will drop him like a bad habit and it would be all hitting the insuranse company.

Just remember Type RC....what comes around goes around. If the insurance company finds out you are filing a false insurance claim, you may be in much worse shape than the guy that hit you.

People like that don't deserve to drive, as today thank god it wasn't as bad but who knows what he'll do tommorow to someone else.

But then again, RC's car has only suffered minor damages, he's fine, and the other guy has been arrested. He WILL pay for his actions and the consequences of his decisions; he'll go to court, pay a big fine and/or go to jail, his insurance premium will go up or he will be dropped, and his car is fucked up. If RC wants revenge, then he should go after the kid, not the insurance company. But he's saying he'll go to the insurance company, and why? Because they can pay out more money. His car will be fixed by his insurance company, and he is fine; chalk it up to bad luck, thank God that it wasn't any worse, and move on. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but the way he's putting it sounds like he's just trying to somehow come out with some money out of this. I just don't get it. I think it's completely unnecessary, and unnecessary lawsuits and/or claims are what cause high premiums. Look at the medical industry; I'm not saying it's the only reason, but these ridiculous medical lawsuits are what cause high premiums and now some 1/4 of the American population live without medical insurance because they can't afford it.

you said only the bumper was cracked
if thats the case, dont file a claim with insurance, instead just replace the bumper and make the kid pay shit, and then dont say shit abuot an accident do the resale value doesnt go down
i dont think a cracked bumper is enuogh to salvage title a car

It might be too late to not claim cuz the police report will probably go to the insurance. I'd suggest going around and looking for more damage.... "oops the trunk trim seems damaged.... oops the taillight is cracked"

I'm sure we like to give our forum members the benefit of the doubt, but some of the details are interesting
Couldn't tell if you spun half way around all the way around, or 2 times around? But you had the presense of mind to put it into SS jam it into 1st and control the spin? Amazing he spun you around and only caused a crack in the bumper!
Seems like a bunch of bragging to me.

The fact of the matter is your PISSED and you have every right to be - too make more out of this with a lawsuit is your call, but it really seems to be a bit overkill - just remember your insurance company tracks the number of times you also have been involved in an accident (your fault or not) and your premiums will also be affected. Be pissed off - be very pissed - but do things for the right reason...Not like the asshole who hit you - as others have already said thank god (whatever god or higher power) it could have been worse.
