Solution for splash guard paint rubbing problem

For those of you that want to install the factory splash guards but are afraid of them scratching the paint here is a trick I am going to try. Make a custom paint protector by purchasing bulk material from one of the clear bra companies. You can cut a piece that will cover the area where the splah guard touches the paint.

It can be had in bulk at http://www.xpel.com/bulk.html

Also, I sanded the edges of mine down a bit, they were very sharp.

That's the key. Think about it...if the splash guard can wear through paint, it's gonna easily wear through the Xpel.

Yes it's true, search the site for some of the pix. It is not pretty.

I don't think anyone has had much luck w/warranty repairs for this. The dealer may try to buff it out, but I don't think you'll get a whole lotta help on this one.

If you put them on, just be sure to sand down the sharp edges or trim them up a little.

I got mine off, and the dealer repainted the damages under warranty. I also got the OEM kit installed at the same time. Now i searching for mud guards that will fit with the OEM kit for the winter.

Anyone with a solution?

thanks

Our paint is paper thin as I'm sure you know. The xpel stuff is much thicker and more durable, especially if you use the type that is for headlights, it is about as thick as a quarter.

Anyway, it's definitely worth a shot.
