So what does TL stand for?
I know that before Acura started using acronyms they had full names for their cars. They had the Integra, the Vigor, and the Legend. Then came RL, TL, RSX/TSX etc. I was just curious as to what these acronyms stood for. I know the name change was to revamp the Acura image and keep it distant from mother Honda but are there articles as to what the acronyms stand for?
TSX = Touring Sport X
CL = Coupe Luxury
TL = Touring Luxury
RL = Regal Luxury
MDX = Moms Daily X
I made these up by the way.

I like that one "two ladies" in the back seat.
I like that one but for the many of us with transmission problems TL stands for "tough love"
And for those that didn't get covered by Acura it's "tough luck"
But for me it stands for "totally lucky" because Acura changed my tranny on a car I just bought with 110,500 miles on the ODO.
Alright, enough of the corny acronym explanations. I tried wikipedia and couldn't fine anything except for that the is called the Inspire or Saber.

The only answer I have that is definite is that any Acura with an "X" is a sport model (this came from my lame factory training). RSX=sport coupe, TSX=sport sedan, MDX/RDX=sport utility, and we all remember the NSX.
I believe the CL concept was called the "CL-X concept".

Well, I found that RL stood for "Road Luxury" or "Replacement Legend". I would think "Road Legend" would be better which leads me to think that TL could stand for "Touring Legend" Eh, whatever the case I'm just glad it's no longer called a Vigor. Can you imagine it? Yeah uh, I drive a Vigor Type S.

Transmission Lousy
probably comes from the original endurance test drivers for the car
chanrith and others- if you told girls you had vigor Type S, they might think
its something in a male medical stimulant for that
~certain~ part of the body
OR a social condition
Think I will put the SABRE or Inspire badge on my ride
No truth in advertising laws here

I always thought TL meant "touring luxury" and RL meant "refined luxury". I could be wrong though. However TL could also stand for Tranny Lubrication as a reminder to it's owners to flush and fill well before the factory recommended schedule. LOL! J/K btw, but never a bad idea....

I recall with the TL Acura intended the "Touring Luxury" moniker, in other words sporty lux machine, I read this somewhere in their press releases about their line up and their mission. This was when they came out with the first generation TL.
