Afternoon, AZine. I drive a 2000 Acura TL (2nd gen, zenki). This morning when I was warming up my car to get ready for work (I start work at 3:45 am), I noticed my glove compartment and center console was open. All my napkins, paperwork, and other random objects inside my car were thrown all over the floor. Looked like a mini hurricane inside my car. I put two and two together and realized someone broke into my car. I got out the car to check if my windows were broken, and luckily all windows were still intact (whew). Then I started taking inventory on what the thief had taken, and luckily the thief only took my old iPod and cigarettes.
Here's my question. How the eff did the thief get inside my car? I know for DAMN sure I locked my car. My OCD ass always locks it twice to hear the car alarm arm itself with the BEEP BEEP noise. My car is 16 years old with the OEM car alarm. Now I'm wondering if there is any technology out there nowadays that can bypass my alarm. Maybe they had a master key? I'm just so curious on how the thief managed to get past the alarm. Anyone have similar experiences? Should I report this to the police? Thanks or your help and I apologize if this thread is in the wrong section.

It should not.. Unless he lowered the windows forcefully he had to open any door to be able to enter the car, That will release the pressure on the door light switches and engage the alarm..
Check if all your door light switches (Little black switches in the chassis side that depress when you close the door) are not stuck in the closed position.. EVEN THEN he had to open the car manually and release the lock which again will set off the alarm.
Are you 100% sure you engaged the alarm? Cuz he had to be able to by-pass at least 2 levels of security to even be able to enter the car.

Burning Brakes
Is the alarm in working order now? If not, that means they disabled / cut wires somehow. If it is still functioning, we have a howdunnit. It looks like a crime of opportunity though. They weren't interested in stealing your car; rather they scavenged whatever they could find inside.

The evidence clearly points to the opportunistic crack head that goes around checking for open doors. If you had any change in your car that would be missing too. If you keep you keys in your pocket often, I know have set my alarm off that way a few times and I am sure I have unlocked it that way as well.

Yes there are all sorts of technology to bypass alarms but thats unlikely what someone did for a 17yo car. And no, theres no reason to report it to police unless you want to waste a few hours of your life youll never get back assuming they even show up.
