So i went to get an Oil Change from Acura

So this was the first time i was going to get an oil change done in my TL and i only go to dealerships to get them done i dont kno y i just do. So i get there and the guys are cool bkuz i know them all, so they take my car to the shop lift it up to start and then 5 min later they showed me something.

Dumbass honda where i bought the car from used a effin torque wrench instead of a regular wrench to put the bolt on the oil drain. and if Acura takes it off it might not go back on and i will have to get a new oil pan 500 buks, so now 2morrow i have to go to honda so they can see whatsup they said that if it is stripped they will put a new oil pan on free of charge.! I was Pissed!

It's not brain surgery. This is why I avoid taking my car for service anywhere. Even the dealers have 'tards working there. If I can do it myself, I will because I know it'll be done right! Plus you can save a lot of money.

are the 2g TL drain bolts exposed, like regular oil pan drain bolt's? or are they more like honda trans drain bolt's?

i do not understand why any of those highly paid tech's could not figure out how to remove a stripped bolt....

They're just like any other oil drain pan bolt. They probably just didn't want to leave the OP stuck with a $500 repair.

I never have time to change it myself or i would plus i dont pay the regular price my oil changes from Acura are like 20 bucks instead of 40. I look at it like this i still have to buy the oil and oil filter so thats what maybe 15 bucks pay 5 extra bucks and have them do it LOL!

But yea its a good thing i buy all my cars from honda they treat me right.

Honda uses preset torque wrenches for their drain bolt and a separate one for the oil filter in the express department.

If you do have you pay out of pocket you might want to check at a Honda dealer for the oil pan. Im not a 100% sure but I think that the oil pan from a 98-02 Accord v6 will match and will most likely be a lot cheaper than Acura.

20 bucks for a oil change? I doubt its synthetic. I pay about 40-45 for oil and filter. Takes 15-20 minutes. Try it bro its simple. You cant take 20 minutes out of your sech? Dont watch tv for a half hour and get it done. I do them on all our cars. My dads, moms and sisters. Its soo simple. I wouldnt leave my car with the dealers. Dont know out there but here they are just asses.

I saw that too.. They should use a Torque Wrench to tighten the bolt. That way they dont over tighten it.

Wow, it a good thing to point out. I alway paid Acura to change the oil & filter since the only place I trusted... May be I should stick my head to the ground some day to check it myself.

Changing your own oil doesn't equal huge savings...

RP 5W30 $33.60 + K&N oil filter $13 + $15 labor & free HAND car wash at Acura dealership

Thats worth taking it to the dealership IMO, as long as you trust your dealership.

2G, 3G ... both are nice cars

Anyway, I wouldn't take my baby to Firestone, JiffyLube etc but I've had a lot of work done at my dealership (insurance stuff) and they really stand by their work.

Look at it this way, would you take $15 to hand wash someone's car and change their oil?

You're *supposed* to use a Torque Wrench NOT a "regular" wrench.

The Torque Wrench *insures* you tighten a bolt to the proper spec. 29 ft/lbs for the oil drain bolt, I think.

(edit - RP_guy and Kris beat me to it )

Same here.

Dealer would charge $60+ for full synthetic and use a lower quality filter (Search "15400-PLM-A02" in the 3G forum, see for yourself).

Yeah you should just do it yourself. Did mines for my first time and it was real simple after I got the actual bolt off. No spillage either. $26 Castrol (I wanted Mobil but Walmart didn't have any 5w-30 synthetic), $12 K&N filter..about $40. When I regrettably went to Jiffy Lube for my first change, I paid about $35...and that was conventional.

The dealership doesn't give the old oil enough time to fully drain either. The last few drops are the most important. I usually pour a half quart of oil through once it begins to slowly drip, then wait again for it to stop before I close it up and add the new oil.

Quick Reply: So i went to get an Oil Change from Acura
