I would rather have the 335ci over my TL-S (though I love my car). Honestly though, I would still rather have the 335ci over the 4th gen TL-SH, just on looks alone (though I would probably take the TL-SH over the 335i...just not a huge fan of the 3 sedan). Now if we expand the list and keep under 45ish, and talking sedans, I would take a G-37S! I think that car looks great.

My 1999 Acura 3.2TL-P is doing pretty fine. The only things I have done so far since I had the car back in February of this year were:

Oil Changes
Air Filter
Front rotors and pad replacement
Thermostat and coolant flush

I need to:
Change tranny fluid
Swap a new front windshield
Get 4 brand new tires

Other than that I'm loving this Acura TL. I will purchase the 3rd generation model once this one is finished! I am an Acura fan and glad to own one!

I'm not sure if you could call it "lucky," but the body of my 2000 TL got devastated by a flying steel canopy during a thunderstorm last year, and after just shy of the book value of the car worth of body work, it looks brand new again. See the picture to the left. Kind of a blessing in disguise, I suppose.

Overall, though, the maintenance has been much better than my old Ford and Mercury cars. I've had a rear brake job, a second front job which I just did at 105k (the first one was due to towing damage five years ago), and had the transmission replaced with a labor consideration from Acura last year. Not really much else mechanical stuff.

One thing to be cautious of is crooked dealerships - I had an Acura dealer try to sell me a $450 lower ball joint and a $100 engine mount during said transmission replacement. I passed on the ball joint, and then the following week had the Monro shop doing my state inspection do a suspension inspection while they were at it - turns out that not only was there nothing wrong with the lower ball joint, the suspension was in excellent shape and better than they'd have expected at the mileage.

This, of course, led me to consider that a failing engine mount is plausible at 85000 miles for a Ford, but not for an Acura. Needless to say the Honda dealership will be doing my timing belt next week, not the Acura dealership.

My gf wanted a BMW 3-Series. I told her that German cars aren't really known to be reliable, and explained which brands were German. I tried to steer her towards Acura/Infiniti/Lexus.

She went and looked at a MB SLK. :slapsselfintheface:

I'd take a 4G TL SH-AWD over a 335i. The 3-Series line is nice, but they look boring. Not to mention the back seat is really small, especially for 6'+ people like me.

^^^ Some members were talking about lubing a cable a while back. Apparantly, the cruise control is worked with a cable connected to the throttle. Sometimes it gets stuck...

Just shelled out $604 this week for the timing belt package - the timing belt, accessory belt, compressor belt, and a new water pump at 106,116.

Had to re-grease the brake calipers on the rear to put a stop to some squealing last weekend too, but that was pretty easy. Take it from me - never NEVER get brake dust on your skin. You'll regret it for weeks.

My 2000 Acura 3.2TL just hit 200,000 miles yesterday afternoon, and I put new Continental PureContact tires on it last week. Still getting around 29-30 MPG, though it's time for new spark plugs which hopefully will get it back up to 31-32.

My TL is kicking ass. I just flipped over 230K and the car runs like new. I did have to replace the tranny at 222K, but I honestly feel like I can get to 500K no problem. I do need a new strut and a new power steering Oring, but that is minor money and work. I love this car, and I don't ever see myself getting rid of it.

2002 TLS, doing well. Feeling a bit blah lately with the winter tires still on, but that's easily remedied. Might need a bit of suspension TLC when I flip the tires, but should be nothing major.
I just drove a rented Altima 2.5 S for about 8 hours today. Returned the car, got back in mine. Hit the gas and it leapt compared to the Altima....my foot was used to the Altima...not quite the same car...

I have a 99 TL, second owner. Bought the car back in 2006 with 32k, today she sits at just over 133k. Love this car, the ride is excellent, reliability is wicked, and still a timeless body style.

Maint:
2 x Both front and back brakes, rotors
Timing belt, water pump, and belts
2 motor mounts, side, and front
2 front axels
Rear transmission mount, the expensive one
Multiple drain and fill transmission fluid
EGR valve kit, and valve adjustment tune
Electrical column for the key
Front shocks, and strut mounts
Cabin filter change just the other day, had the original LOL!!!
HID bulb replacement 2x
NGK spark plugs 1x
Lots of tires
Lots of oil changes

So all and all, its just really wear and tear. I have the original transmission, which is still in great shape. Car should be on the road for years to come.

Ahhh a GTO Owner! Now I know why you have a TL.... Those GTOs are quite funny; As long as your accelerating the Gas Needle keep going the other way against the speedo in Real Time... Its hilarious how fast you can spend 60 bucks on those cars on a daily basis..

I Miss my 2 week 05 GTO, I Dont Miss fueling it Tough...

Lol, for real dude, you are absolutely correct, my GTO is a money pit. However, I love it. I also love my TL, gas mileage is a tad better.

Mmm there is actually some threads on using first the odyssey transmission but that required a physical modification iirc..

Then some members mentioned the Updated trans of the Accord V6 which had 4 shaft trans design vs 3 and could be used on our cars...

Theres is basically not much to know about the swap; The trans come from an Accord V6 Sedan or Coupe 5 Spd between 06 and 07 is completely bolt-on No Physical modification need it (Like the Odyssey) just need to swap most of the sensors, the ATF warmer and the Range Position Switch from your original trans In case of TL-S, If you have a Base model then you have to make a lil mod to the Power Steering velocity sensor (Basically eliminate it) and thats it!!

The trans itself cost me around 800 bucks + 200 bucks freight but it has less tan 30K miles on it so its basically Brand new.

But you have a 99! If I remember you have a 4 Speed so you will need the ECU from a Base +00 Model with 5 Speed to make it work... If you have a TL-S Swap then you dont need anything.

Hope that Helps.

My 03 TL is runnign strong. Only issue to date is my driver side headlight ballast taking a s***. Funny thing is it's hard to find used OEM parts. Tomorrow is a running around day looking for a ballast. Overall she has 180k miles and has gone to TN, MI, NC all multiple times and all over Florida. Love my TL. Looking at having her well over 250Kmiles

wow wtf is wrong with my car... I get about 20 mostly highway... And its been like that since I took it from my mom. My mom used to get 350-400/tank.

I get 250-300 before light comes on.

I've done seafoam, spark plug change, done those cleaners you put in the tank. Its all the same. Nothing changes. So I dont even bother. I do have a heavy foot, but not that heavy, I've tried and I dont get that good mpg. Maybe like 23 lol

My '99 TL's doing well for its age. Though it could most definitely have been more reliable. It's on its 3rd trans at 121K, though the 2nd could have died because of the power flush that was done, or maybe it had something to do with it's day at the race track :p. PS system is making funny noises and the shocks are on their way out. Not to mention yet another CV boot has cracked. Apart from that and few cooling issues she's doing well. Love the leather and how well it's lasted. White Diamond Pearl paint is extremely resilient as well. I'm running Mobil 1 now, better late then never.

I dont know how they are doing this either, i only do city for the most part. Im getting roughly 15 and i dont drive it THAT hard. Im going to do the seafoam/new sparks at once and see how much that helps.

I recently got 29MPG

Cleaning ur EGR makes quite a difference.

My bad girl is doing well with its JDM parts, and recently got a stick on bumper pole, which I know I will get hated on for, but it will serve more than 1 purpose.

Will be doing the timing belt soon and 90% sure I will get the underdrive Ebay crank pulley. I also have the UR alternator and p/s pulley.

Once i'm out of tire thread I will sell my 3g wheels and get some xxr's and go lower. This will take a while lol.

Overall, I love this car more and more everyday.

I have to say that I'm really enjoying my 03 TL-P. Had the car just over a year and with 81,xxx currently on it. I'm on my 2nd AT already, which sucks, but this isn't a bad car at all for my first Honda/Acura vehicle. Getting about 30MPG highway, and 25-26 combined (Thanks Cruise Control).

No performance mods on the car just yet (many still sitting in the garage). Just focusing on the maintenance and service.

02 TL-P, 84k miles, original owner.

3rd tranny - original replaced at around 30k - failed. Then went to the dealer just before the 7+ year extended warranty and asked them to check noise (whine) and possible jerky shifts. They said no shifting problem, but some noise so they replaced the tranny at around 60k miles. Third times the charm - for now.

Timing belt and side + front motor mounts changed at 75k. Low mileage for a belt changes, but 10 years vs 7 recommended.

Rest is normal maint - oil, brakes and tires. Plus cleaning the throttle body and lubing the cables. And replacing the CD changer.

Mileage is 31.5mpg in perfect conditions (highway only, AC off unless needed). 17 mpg around town (lots of 0 mpg at stoplights along with stop and go).

Oil consumption is 4500 around town driving (short trips) to over 15000 (estimated) for highway travel. Did a 5000 mile trip and measured consumption - very little. So my engine seems to use oil during the warm up phase and almost none after reaching operating temp.

So far, so good.

Just turned 117K miles, purchased Acura certified used in 07.

In the last few months I have done the following:

New Michelin MXM4 Primacy tires
Front & side engine mounts (OEM)
New front rotors (Raybestos advance technology brand)
Hawk HPS Pads
Rear sway bar endlinks (Moog HD)
EGR valve

Front suspension is still original and in good shape, including the struts. Car is holding up well and the overall quality of this vehicle is much better than most. Engine runs perfect and uses no oil, not even a leak so far. Have done the intake passage cleaning a few times over the years.

Acura did replace my transmission with an updated unit back in 2010, no problems since. Timing belt, water pump & related components replaced 2 years ago.

Average 20-22MPG around town & 30-32MPG highway on a recent trip.

Overall I am pleased with this car.

136K miles 03 TL-S. Doing fine but trans is slipping slowly. 6mt swap in near future (slowly buying parts). At the moment we speak she's in the garage sitting for a while thanks to surgery

I saw my old TL with its new owner on the road today! I kinda miss it because it was my first real car and I did so much with/to it.
