Snow/Winter Driving
Ok today was the first day of Old Man Winter and it was pretty bad out there with the snow here in NY. I was worried how my car would handle with my body kit and it being low to the ground and with my stock tires. First off... car handled decently however I think it could've been better. I guess thas where Snow Tires come into play. Ne suggestions on snow tires?
Now... my other question is... with the body kid.. my rear tires keeps kicking the snow back and gets stuck in the wheel wells and hardens. Im sure this is not good for the paint.. is there ne way to prevent this or am I just stuck having to clean it all the time regularly?
Other than that.. i loved the fact that I saw all the Mercedez and Beamers parked with hazzards on... on the side of the road cuz of their rear wheel drive... and the TLS just drove like a champ! I guess only advantage of a FWD. But overall good.
And is it just me or does the car seem to have better handling when your drive it in SS mode in the snow.. cuz I tried that today for the first time...and by being able to select the desired gears... I felt the car was more stable. Maybe its just psychological.

yeah..except with front wheel drive the front end plows throw every turn!!!..i wish i had a rwd drive...i can control oversteer so much better....
anyway.i had the same problem you had.i thought my rear body kit was gona fal off....it was loaded with snow/ice...and on top of that..my wheel wels were loaded with snow...nothing but snow between tires and fenders...should have got coilovers

Hey, NYDesi80...Did you drive along Conklin Street in Farmingdale yesterday? Stuck in a nice flow of traffic heading towards the 109 branch off? If It was you I passed you going the other way...
Cool to actually see a member once in a while...
I had the same expirence yesterday with Jags... BMWs and Mercs all driving slow and having thier flashers on... I guess those are warm weather cars only... My TL-S got through with no problems what so ever...

Just out of curiosity, how well does the VSA work in the snow and ice? Does it constantly stay on until you get moving? How about with under and over steer. I've never driven my TL-S in freezing conditions so the only time my ! light has come on is when accelerating from a stop on slick (oily/wet) surfaces.

It works great. But if your stuck in snow like I was once backing out.. the VSA kicks in as soon as the tires start spinning out. Obviously this is not what you want in this situation, because ur trying to get out.. so I turned the VSA off and let the wheels spin and all the snow was kicked back and whaaaam the car was out!! Great feature if you ask me... since a lot of people tend to forget how to drive in bad weather. People just become stupid on the road, this time of year.. why is that?
