Snow Tires from Acura

When I brought in my car for 15k miles service yesterday that guy at the dealer (NorthEast Acura) told me about the Snow package that Acura is offering...

$1050 for tires and rims. He said the rims aren't the stock ones on my TL-S but they look very similar to those on RSX...

Anyone here got that package? Is it any good?

BULL$HIT...$1000 for snow tires???

go to tirerack.com, they have big ads in car and driver every month, great deals on snow tire packages, with either steel wheels or alloy.

another example of the dealer trying to rape us.

I consider that a good deal.. The Rims cost couple Hundred Each and the 4 Tires also cost couple 100 so $1000 seems like a right price.. CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG

I agree, I have done a lot of checking and any wheel from Tire Rack other that steel costs at least $125. A decent winter/all-season tire runs at least $100, so minimum a set of decent wheels with decent tires go for near $1K. The Acura deal could be a pretty good one.

I have a nice bridge in N.Y. to sell you if you buy that package.
Like agean says you could get a much better deal from tirerack.
I got the optional chrome multi spoke wheels from the dealer for my TL. They were on sell at my dealership a few years ago.
I got snow tires from tirerack & had them mounted on the standard OEM alloy wheel that came on the car. I had the regular tires put on the chrome wheels. Tirerack can sell you a package for your car & ship it to you by UPS.

I am not sure what you mean about the Acura deal being so bad. The Arctic Alpins go for about $100 each. TL look a-like rims go for $125 each. That comes out to $400 for tires and $600 for rims, total Tire Rack price $1,000 plus delivery.

How is the Acura deal so off base ?

actually $125 X 4 is $500 and than the $600 for Rims= $1000 + Shipping Charge and than again ITS NOT OEM! Its a look alike wheels... The quality wont be good as Acura OEM!

I could be way off base & I am not sure of the how much more the extra cost of a snow tire for a Type S vs a TL. But one package they have for a TL/CL is $760 with FOX 5 alloy wheel. But whatever you get make sure you get the correct snow tires for the area you are going to drive in. I went with the Arctic-Alpin only because they are better for this area. I give up the deep snow traction for better ice & dry road handling. This area does not get much snow in general. Most of the time the snow is just to the north of us by 50 to 75 miles. This area may get the ice or nothing at all. After driving on all season tires for few years there traction in ice & snow are low. But if the real stuff does come I am ready to drive in it if I need to. This might be the year for our area the last time we had anythig kida big was about 3years ago. My TL was brand new only about a month old.

no on has mentioned if we are talking about a 17" or a 16"wheel....I am assuming 16" since the RSX has 16" wheels. If they are 17's, you have a helluva great price. Even for 16's it's not bad. But be careful on the tire selection. There is a difference between snow tires and winter tires. Winter tires will offer much bettter traction on dry pavement in colder weather while snow tires will be best in the snow and not as good on dry pavement. Most people are probably doing their winter driving on pavement and only on snow a small fraction of the time. Winter tires are still far and aay better in the snow than an all season tire of any kind. So basically, unless you really drive in teh snow a lot, you probably want a winter tire, not a snow tire. Just an FYI.

good winter rire choices are:

Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 $122
Dunlop Winter Sport M2 $98
Michelin Pilot Alpin $117

Thank you for all the advice. I'll call up the dealer and see what exactly they're gonna give me for $1050. I'm sure those are Acura OEM wheels

I love the Dunlop Winter Sports M2 too.

joelny..
Get the pilot Alpin... they are great.. I got them last winter and they are really amazing, quiet and comfortable, but allow you to "drive" your car in the winter.... and I don't mean granny type driving.

Alright finally I've got an Ad from NorthEast Acura. It says:

"Package Includes the following:
17 inch: 4 215/50/17
Bridgestone WS-50 snow tires
mounted and balanced on Sport
Edition brand Fox 2 wheels
$1040.00."

Is this a great deal or not?

Joel,

Tirerack.com (4 wheels ) has the same rims/tires. For the 7inch rims the cost (plus Delivery) is $952. For the 7.5 inch rims it is $1032. These come mounted on the rims and balanced but you have to put them on the car. By the time you add shipping it sounds like a better deal to go with the Acura Special.

If you are going to go the straight snow tire and new wheels route going to a 16 inch wheel and a narrower tire will give you much better snow traction.

Those are the tires I'm getting. Also got the Mille Miglia Spider rims in 17" as snows. The total price is in the $575 range total (got a good price on the tires and rims).

I originally went to buy the Blizzak LM-22's, but the size I ordered did not meet the load rating of the TL-S. The ones that did meet it were around $165 per tire.... so I went with the WS-50. They are great snow tires.. and decent dry tires... so they're good enough for the winter months....

As for the ad... you can probably get a good deal from TireRack.. rims and tires for probably around $200 (or more) less.....
