smell

Ever since yesterday I have been getting this wierd odor from my front brakes. The car has 10k miles and have never smelled that before. And it is strong you can smell it as soon as you get out of the car but do not see anything out of place when I look. Has this happened to anyone. Any ideas!! Thanks

What kind of smell?

Have you taken it to a car wash with underbody sprays? Maybe you ran over something while braking.

Does it smell like burnt rubber?

Or does it smell a bit like sweet chemical kinda smell??

Check your engine/brakes for any leaks or dripping from underneath when you are smelling it. The same thing happened to me on my old car.

Also check for fluid levels, transmission, brake fluid, etc..

Thanks for the reply. It is like a chemical smeel. It is definatly not rubber smell. I will check the fluids when I get home. I have been looking under the car for leaks but have not seen anything! Kind of strange. If I do not find anything I will probably take it to the dealer tomm.

It's probably from hard braking....do some spirited driving, accellerating, slamming on the brakes for a few minutes in a secluded area, then get out and take a whiff...smells the same?

it happens in my mom's Audi when the brakes haven't been washed out in a while...Once you rinse them out they are ok...
