That inline six will rip you up....
"Waiting to be installed:"
OBX Headers
Comptech Exhaust

Install those and give it a shot. They're really not that fast at all.

stock vs stock it will be a very close race... but i've seen a 2000 TL with removed resonator beat a 330i auto on the highway...

with the mods listed in ur sig you will beat him for sure.

seriously. its not like the 330 is superior or something.... if you look at the specs the two cars are pretty much head-to-head:

2003 BMW 330i
3.0L inline 6 225hp @ 5900rpm, 214 lb-ft @ 3500rpm
3362 lbs

2002 Acura TL-P
3.2L V6 225hp @ 5600rpm, 216 lb-ft @ 4700rpm
3492 lbs

plus he has the headers, cai, and exhaust.

if its just a straight race then i think that penguin would win with a good launch

The TL with the mods will win (most likely by quite a bit if traveling @ over 80 mph) both drivers being equal. This is based on the paper facts.

So my reasoning was that the question posed was a joke (at least it made me laugh).

Granted, I drive a bone stock TL-s, but I have yet to be beaten by a 3 series that ain't an M3. I am sure that they are out there, but NO WAY it will be stock.

My best friend has a 330i, but he has the whole Dinan setup going on: CAI, exhaust, highflow throttle body, and performance software. It's really deceiving; his car looks bone stock with the exception of 17" M3 rims but i'm sure it'd tear up a heavily modded TL-P and probably most TL-S's. I'm gonna see if he'll race me after i get my headers and exhaust installed. Although i'll most likely lose, i'm curious to see what the difference is.

I agree with redlinen, after 3rd gear is done the race is probably lost. In general, the TL feels pretty weak on the high end. I was doing a max speed run on an empty strip of highway a few wks ago, and i had trouble bringing it above 115. I was pretty dissapointed, cuz above 100mph, the car felt no better than my mom's '99 toyota avalon (which i've gotten up to 135). Hopefully it was the 2 passengers riding with me made the difference.

with h/i/e...full exhaust system not just cans, you "might" keep up........

it would be interesting to see a dinan 330 dinan versus tl-s with h/i/e.
of course we are talking auto vs auto.

You'll only see his tail lights after 3rd gear.
The 3's much lower max torque RPM is a plus too.

well... dinan. that's different. if you check out the article about it in Car&Driver, you'll see that it's basically "as close to a 4-door m3 as it gets" with the exception of the higher-end package for 3 series (i think with supercharger?)

anyway, i dont get how you had trouble going above 115. my dad has gone 130 on the way to vegas and it was pretty stable... and thats with a '99 (4-speed!)hmm.
