Slight Hesitation in Starting

Recently when I turn the ignition key, it hesitates a bit before starting. It sounds like it may not start, but then it does. I thought I have a battery that is running out (Mine is a 2002 TL with 65,000 miles on it) so I got a new battery. It goes back to normal for about a couple of months and now I feel it is hesitating again when starting. Do you think my starter is going? Or is my alternator going so the battery is not adequately charged?

Yeah, that happens to my car too, but it is really erratic...might happen every 2 months or so... luckily i'm still under warranty so I think if anything happens the dealer should take car of it... by the way welcome to the forum Heidi...

I just got my car a few weeks ago... '02 TL with 57k (now 58k) miles... Every so often, my start seems to hesitate too... kinda scary!

The same thing happened to a brand new 04 tl i test drove at the dealer. Dont sweat it. Just make sure you had the ignition recall taken care of.

The hesitation can be because of a few things. If you park your car outside, moisture from humidity can cause the car be slow to start. I noticed if I parked my car outside in the rain, it would take longer to start in the morning ...

Also, heat can be an issue. Especially for the Type S because of the higher compression ratio, the engine tends to not want to start as easily. I've noticed my car when I'm running errands and constantly in/out of the car will take longer to turn over because the engine stays pretty hot the entire time... If you've got a Type S, I wouldn't really worry too much about it. Just comes with the extra compression.

Mine Is Not Type S

My 2002 TL is not Type S. And it has always started right up until recently.

I am going to try to find the ignition recall.

No Ignition Recall

Just looked up Owner Link. There is no ignition recall. Just the extended tranny.
