Sirius or XM Radio Installs - Let's See Them

I started this thread to see where others are installing their Sirius or XM radios. I installed mine in the sunglass holder. I used a Kenwood Sirius reciver (because iy fit nicely) that plays directly through my radio on 88.3. The sunglass holder was trimmed clean and can still be locked into the close position for a totally stealth install. The brains of the unit are mounted in the trunk on the underside of the rear shelf (completly out of view). I could not stand the small black antenna box on my trunk, it drove me crazy. I bought a XM roof antenna from a 2006 Accord EX 4dr and converted it. I removed the guts and used a grinder to clear out a flat surface for the Sirius antenna. I then lowered the headliner and found the center of the roof. I drilled a hole the exact size of the one in the Accord roof and installed it using the same hardware. Once I made sure the reception was good I had the housing painted WDP. The install gets compliments everywhere I go and there is not a wire showing anywhere. I would really like to see the other unique places people have installed their Sirius and XM units. I always seem to get great ideas on threads like this.

wires are all tucked in now so it looks a lot cleaner, just no recent pics. Cig lighter wire is now running to the center console plug. CD's still come out and load perfectly, and it is not really crooked, it's just the angle of the camera.

If you use all the mounting hardware that the Accord uses its no problem. I did not even need to use silicone or anything to seal it. The antenna has a rubber gasket bottom and it form a tight seal. This car has been driven in the rain and is washed 3 or 4 times a week and not one drop has leaked into the car. You just have to drop the rear of the headliner first so that you drill the hole in a spot where you clear any moonroof wires or bracing.

Not necessarily. If your headunit has an XM TUNER built-in then yes, all you would need is an antenna and a subscription of course. Otherwise, you'll need an external tuner. For example, my Alpine head unit is SAT ready (XM or Sirius), all I have to do is add the appropriate tuner and antenna to it.

hmm I also have an Alpine head unit but it only says XM ready. I guess I also have to purchase the tuner. How much is XM per month? and how much would the tuner and accord antenna cost me? Thanx guys.

As far as I know even if it says XM ready, it will also work with Sirius, but don't quote me on it as my HU says SAT ready.

XM I believe is $12.95 month, the tuner is $95 from crutchfield ( http://www.crutchfield.com/S-hPnFaol...0&I=700XMALPIN ) and it comes with the antenna.

I would think so. When I had my old car and had the Sirius tuner installed, it came with like a 15ft. cable to connect to the HU.
