SIRIUS or XM owners unite! Help!

Sooo.....who here has SIRIUS in their cars. Where have you guys mounted them and what models do you have? I'm thinking of the S50 because it is tall and thin and can mount next to my nav screen with a little modding. Other than that I cant think of anywhere I'd want to put a SIRIUS radio. Any suggestions?? And someone on this forum said they put the XM antenna in their third brake light area?? Please explain how that is done!

check here https://acurazine.com/forums/wash-wax-23/just-great-my-towels-fd-up-now-148347/

I mounted my antenna in the rear deck in front on the third brake light, to do this you need to remove your rear seat, run the antenna from where you decide to mount the receiver, remove the center rear deck speaker cover, mount the antenna and re-install the rear speaker cover and seat in reverse order. Sorry but no pix yet maybe soon.

I wish the DIY I did for XM 5 years ago was still around. Heh. I still have the old Terk pole antenna on my rear window...yeah, it wasn't a mouse-type antenna.

Didn't renew XM. The sound quality was so bad that me farting into a tin can would have sounded better. The programming was awful.

At first, I placed my antenna on the trunk as seen here, in front of the 3rd brake light....

Then, I had some time on my hands, so I put it on top of the car, above the back window...

Its alot better to mount it on top of the car, because everytime I went to open my trunk, it would pull the cable then I would fix it to close it...no good..I just ran the wire around the window, there is a space around the window for that wire, and it came out Super.

I agree w/3.2TL (above). Mount the antenna on the roof, run the wire under the soft molding around the window to the middle of the trunk. I then ran the wire down the middle of the seat backs (just under the rear armrest). Now, move to the interior back seat.

Remove the rear bench seat, find your wire, run it straight ahead to the lip of the carpet. Remove the grommet holding in the carpet on the top of the ledge (dead center).
[NOTE- I needed to remove the small kick plate molding (about 4-5" long) on the bottom of the rear door entrance to do this next step.]

Fold the carpet forward, and run the antenna wire under the carpet toward the psgr side of the front console. There is a small opening in the carpet directly behind the left rear bracket for the front psgr seat. (You'll have to remove the trim molding piece from the seat bracket to access this opening.)

Run the wire through this opening, then straight up to the bottom of the front console. It will hide nicely just under the bottom of the console as you run it forward. I then ran it to come out thru the small gap just under what isn't an ashtray and above where you put your cellphone.

For power, I used the auxiliary power source in the console, and ran the cord thru the cupholder area.

Haven't decided on a mounting area yet, but am open for suggestions. (I have a Starmate Replay that, at present, sits nicely on top of the CD storage magazine.)

Clear as mud?

Hope this helps,

czar

Oh, and I forgot to mention the following:

For running/hiding the wire, I found that a razor blade (run backward so as not to cut the molding) or an extremely thin-bladed screwdriver worked very well on the window molding. For the interior, I used a plastic butterknife to hide the wire under the console.)

Sirius Stiletto. Its mounted the right side of the stereo, just low enough for the glove compartment to clear.

Ant. is just behind the top of the windshield outside the car. The navi thing was in the rear.

Used a Blitzsafe and split it with a "Y" adaptor to run Ipod and XM. Mount from ProFit.

drilled the mount into the tray above the radio, CD's still eject perfectly without touching the unit, it fit perfectly. Tray still clicks open and closed as well. I'm going to hardwire it and hide the wires better, but i was in a hurry installing it.
