from what I found, the actual URL has to end in a image type (bmp, jpg, jpeg...) It seems that images hosted on a site like PhotoPoint won't work as the url is being picked up as a site, not an image. My sig pic has a URL ending in JPG and is working fine, but I tried to get Ed's (Shoofin) to work and it doesn't.
Hope this helps some of the confusion... hopefully there will be a work around, but I haven't found it.
