Question Should I wait for 2003?

I anticipate buying my next car this fall. I'm leaning towards the TL type S over the new Volvo S60.

I understand the TL will get a re-design for 2003. Should I wait? or should I try to negotiate a really good deal on a 2002?

Also can anyone post pics of what the TL looks like with the underbody cladding installed? Thanks!

let me ask you all this...do you honestly feel honda will do a complete makeover on the tl considering the newly refreshened 2002 model will only have been around for 1 year?!?!?!

if anything, i think the newer style of tl should exist for 2002 and 2003, and then a possible redesign could appear as a 2004 model.

this has been discussed to death, but i think that unless something has changed, honda will follow the 5 year cycle, which means that next years model (2003) will be identical or nearly identical to the 02 out now, and then something new will be out for 2004 model.

You can wait and you might like the new design. But then again, that's what all those Maxima drivers thought until the 5th gen design with those nasty tail lights came out.

The car is sweet right now in it's current format. When the 2003 model comes out, you might hear that the 2006 is going to have All Wheel Drive like the MDX, 350 HP, etc. etc. and might want to wait for that one. Buy it now, unless you're waiting for the 6-Speed that's supposedly due out later this year.

You buy a car when you need it.
Does this help?

I beg to differ. You buy a car when you want it.

Hopefully that helps you decide..

Cool

FYI...The redesign is scheduled to be out in 2003 as a 2004 model.

Personally, I'm getting it now. Why wait... there's always going to be something newer, better, faster, etc. coming out. If you like the TL-S, buy it now. Who knows what this thing is going to look like and what features it's going to have. I think waiting would be silly. If you're not sure, do a 3 year lease. This way you can get the TL-S now, and your lease will be up in 2004. If you like the new one, you can get it then.....

I have to say that the design of the current TypeS is definitely a better design than the previous one. If you are willing to wait for the 2003, then I would wait to see what is going to happen. But if you are satisfied with the current appearance, I say go for it. See what the new Civic look, OMG!! Ewwwww!!! So if you are willing to wait, just don't expect too much because it might be the ugliest thing you will ever see in your life.

I am surprised 2002 Model is out this early. One of the reason I bought it because I get to drive 2002 model for 6 months in 2001 and the entire year in 2002. How sweet it that? There aren't that many 2002 model cars out yet; not till like after June or something. So, I figure, Enjoy it!

I like the current design.
I have no idea if I will like the redesigned model. At the same time, I don't know if I would like another car more when the time comes.
I need a car now, and yes I want a car now, so I buy the best car I can afford.
I'm very happy that I got the best car I can afford while saving over 10k off my budget for this car.
3 years from now, I may just give myself enough budget to get the SC430(hopefully 6MT with 340 HP) or LS430......why would I care about the redesign?

Ditto!

Then there is the RSX, I personally liked the Integra more, it now looks like a hunchbacked CiviFocuishi. (ie. A really bad transporter accident for you Star Trek fans).

I'm sort of in the same boat. Had my heart set on the TL-S since last summer when I heard rumours on it. Then got even more excited with the 6 speed rumours.

Then my parents tell me I should stick with another SUV because of all the crap I lug around to and from school. Just what I wanted to hear right?

Anyway, I wish the TL came in an 'avant' form hehehe. But I guess it's ok, another excuse for me to lease. Looking at the Allroad lease deals going on now, and I guess it'll hold me over until the next TL where I hope to buy it.

You may not think its so "sweet" when your 2002 has almost two years of miles on it in the beginning of 2003. Acura really pisses me off sometimes. They never should have come out with a 2002 so early...they should have made it a 2001...they fu@%ed those of us who bought 2001s before news of the 2002 was out.

Acura has cut too many corners on the TL in the last few years. Cheap leather, cheap soft plastic inside, thin and easily chipped paint, weak wimpy Michelin tires and that plastic ugly grill material. YUKKKK!

Wink

I hear the 2005 3.2TL TypeS is going to have complete voice control of everything in the car. Navigtion system becomes standard, Recaro seats, and also the under-body kit becomes a part of the actual car and NOT an add on. It will have a 325HP VTEC with a top speed of 170Mph; 0-60 in 5.7 sec estimated. Don't forget the optional parachute to help save your brakes; I'd pass on that myself.

BTW, all for a suggested MSRP of $32.690 not including S&H and taxes.

So everyone out there that has NOT bought a 2002 3.2TL-S; WAIT!

And wait!

And wait!

And wait!

I feel for you tea elle....

that's a disadvantage of living in a high tech world. but we have to live w/ it...

Like computers, you bought one today and the next day you see a better one with cheaper price. Damn...

I guess we basically have to be ready for it when we buy something.

I had the same concern so I decided to lease. The redesigned TL will be a better car and hopefully it will be a better looking car. Just look at the 2001 TL compared to the 2002 and that was not a total redesign. If I would have bought a 2001 I would be pissed right now.

I have never found car buying to be a complete rational process.

So you should lease for 3 yrs and drive the 2006 model when the lease is up...

Check out the 2002 A4 in the fall.

I'm in agreement with Firebird_EOU. My TL-S is awesome, but I will probably jump ship and purchase the 2002 Audi A4 Quattro in the Spring of 2002. There is no substitute for all-wheel drive.
