Should I spend the money for a K&N air filter?

Hey...

Should I go and spend the money for a K&N air filter? It says that horsepower will be increased, however my thinking it won't do much.

let me know...much appreciated!

filter

heres two ideas, ive been through both.

1)You buy the drop in filter. It is a good option as long as you yank out the resonator...located under the airbox. If you do this you can barely feel a little extra power, however you can really notice the noise difference. the resonator is basically a muffler for the airbox.
or,
2) You spend a little more and go with an intake. You can definitly feel the power at about 4k rpm and added much more noise at vtec.

both choices are worth the money. its your decision as to how much you want to spend.

I didn't notice much of a difference in power and only a little difference in noise, primarily during strong acceleration. So if your looking for a dramatic power increase, you won't get it.

The car is supposed to breathe better though, and you'll never have to buy an air filter again. So from that respect, it'll pay for itself considering Acura charges over $40 for a new filter.

I found an increase in gas mileage by 2-3 mpg with a K & N drop-in filter. I'd find my posts on the subject, but search is out for now. I have no access to a dyno to measure what (minimal) increase in horsepower there must be with a filter.

Don't expect much of a change in performance, you'll be disappointed.

I've had both the CAI and K&N and recently switched back to the K&N drop in filter...the CAI is great for performance, but the sound is way to loud and extremely annoying IMO.

Just think of it this way, the K&N Drop in acts just like the stock filter. Benefit is that it is cleanable and re-usable. If you get replcaements from the dealer a pay for a replacement, you might as well get the K&N as it costs about the same.
