Should I be able to kill a 350Z?

So I was driving home on 270 last night and pulled up against a 350Z doing about 60. It had no visable mods. I kicked it back into 3rd and lost him in the dust. A little while later, his ego wounded, we pulled off at the same exit. We were in parallel lanes. When the light went green, I hit the VSA button, gate shifted and blew him away. Are TLS' that much better or was he just a shitty driver (his was MT).

Maybe I got the extra powers from the header. That are in the trunk waiting to be installed.

Thanks,

Joe

Depends on which 350Z. One has 287hp and the other 300hp. Either way, the 350Z is a very powerful car. I don't think we can beat them. 0-60 in the low 5s. 1/4 mile in the low 14s. That's M3/sTI territory. We do 0-60 in the low 6s. 1/4 mile in 15 seconds. So yea...

WTF???

Anyway, my car has a lot of mods and I can keep up or be slightly ahead of an auto 'Z' from a roll, but from a stop either auto or stick will get me on a launch. I can't run with the manual except from maybe 55-120mph, otherwise I'd get beaten.

You were racing a total m0r0n. No offense...

Just to clarify, I was asking why I DID beat a 350Z. I know in theory I can't, but I did. Thank God for shitty drivers in good cars

you can beat him if hes in the wrong gear. I have friends who have both have g35c and 350z 6speeds and I can only take them if I catch them in a higher gear.

One of my most horrifying sights in life was pulling out of Hooters one night with my bud to check out a gorgeous yellow Ferrari that had just pulled out in front of us. We got beside him in a hurry and he thought we wanted to race or something. He had this blonde in the car, and he gunned it still in first gear...

Dumba@$$ couldn't find second gear for about 5 seconds while 'hanging' around 9k rpms before about losing his axle when finally ending his grind...He did the same thing after pulling off from the light almost sideways after dumping the clutch at an equally high rpm. I never even tried but was beside him both times while he searched for gears.

Nothing is as sweet as a Ferrari maxed out, but nothing is worse than hearing the gears grind and the clutch turding out. I bet he either wrecked the car, the engine exploded or he lost a clutch within the next two weeks...

what a 'tard...

in my group of friends.. i have two friends, one with a G35 coupe and a girl that drives a 350Z. both have autos. my car isnt that much modded out, and its not even a type-s. i have more driving experience than both and know how to use my sports shift/gate shifts. they just drive it on D.. i can easily take both on highways just because i can swerve better. but on straights, they can take me easily. on curves too, they just have better g's than our long sedans. right now my car can handle better though, just because they have to slow down all the way to take corners, since we're driving in icy roads. our cars have the weight and front drive.

I was enjoying reading this thread, when I though – what that 350z guy would say? Let me try…
– Whizzbomb: “So I was driving home on 270 last night and pulled up against a 350Z doing about 60. It had no visible mods. I kicked it back into 3rd and lost him in the dust.”
– 350z:” I was driving on 270, minding my business, when some maniac passed me from behind, engine revving, as if he came from “gone in 60 seconds” movie.
– “Whizzbomb: A little while later, his ego wounded, we pulled off at the same exit. We were in parallel lanes.”
– 350z: “ He didn’t go very far ahead and pulled off at my exit. At the intersection there was an empty lane so I stopped next to him”.
– Whizzbomb: “When the light went green, I hit the VSA button, gate shifted and blew him away.”
– 350z: “ This guy must be crazy driving like that in the city. I know what my 350Z can do when I want it, and I don’t have to race every TL that comes along. But if I see him again, I’ll tell him that not everyone who doesn’t want to race him for whatever reason is a shitty driver. Probably the contrary is true.”

Totally possible. The only thing that makes me _think_ otherwise is the cat and mouse we played in the local lanes of 270. I'm pretty sure he was trying to play, but certainly not positive.

I'm glad your driving experience has made you more of an asshole swerving in and out of lanes better than your friends can.

Oh and I dunno what you are talking about... A TL-P will get destroyed by any G35 or 350Z. Especially if they are automatic; takes away the driver error. Just hit the gas and go. They both have more horsepower and torque at the wheels than you do at the crank.

You beat the driver, not the car. Seems like you already realize this. Once the guy learns how to drive expect the outcome to be very different.

Hopefully, some place other than a public highway.

It's one thing to do this on a deserted highway where the driver, and their family, are the only ones to suffer if road pizza results. It's another thing when there's traffic around.

270 = wide open. 4 regular lanes of traffic in each direction plus 2 "local" lanes for the exits. i.e., you must exit the traffic lanes prior to your exit (usually about 1 mile) and enter the local lane, then exit the highway. Keeps things moving quickly during non-rush hour times of the day.

a manual Z and a good driver? you dont have a chance no matter how many mods you have. its rear wheel power in a lighter car with higher horse power.

Don't say that... N/A bolt-ons on a Type-S will put you even with the 350Z and a few other "bolt-ons" will easily allow you to SMOKE a 350Z

I've raced them at the track many times before I was S/C'ed. I never saw them trap higher than 98-99 MPH. Maybe 100 once or twice. Low 14s. I was pretty consistanly running 14.2 @ 99-101 MPH. With a 14.1 as my best (I believe, maybe a single 14.0)

Best was 14.1 @ 101 before the S/C.

I only hit 101 once though and it was with a really strong tail wind.

Hitting 14.2 @ 99-100 was par for the course though.

With the supercharger I ran 13.55 @ 106.

Then I bought new tires and ran 13.30 @ 108.

EDIT: I've got a few more goodies to install. Look for a 12 second pass in March.

yea no way a TL can take a 350 Z. As said before, a nicely modded TL-S yea, but other than that no. Lots of drivers out there scared of pushing their cars for fear of ruining it or crashing.

I have a TL-P, tried racing some guy in a trans am firehawk once. Caught the guy at 110 and started losing him cuz he got scared...he could've easily raped me.

I COULD be possible, but they got the advantage on the car. A 260hp FWD large sedan is no match for a 300hp RWD roadster. They have the advantage already. The only way we can win is racing against a shit driver to compensate the car advantage, even then, it'll be hard!

We have Vtec though Does Nissan have something similar to VTEC? I'm pretty sure they do, most car makers have that under a dif name. aka vvt-i :P

100% agree.

Man, I had no idea when I started this thread it would turn into this. I'm amused

And as was stated earlier it was on 270, big road, 4 lanes and no traffic. I almost never race and if I do it's NEVER in high traffic areas or 2 lane situations.

Thanks,

Joe

FWD vs RWD has nothing to do with a highway race...

No

The 350 has more power and is lighter and lower. Track or straight line, espically with a manual transmission. the 350 should have no problem unless that guy is a fag

And we all know that the lower stance of a car affects it's acceleration on a highway race.

You'd be surprised what a J32A2 can do with simple bolt-ons.

Nissan's VQ35DE has VTC (read: Cam Phasing), but it's different from VTEC. Honda DOHC iVTECs incorporate cam phasing with conventional VTEC. (Nissan VVL = Honda VTEC; Nissan VTC = Toyota VVTi = the 'i' in 'DOHC iVTEC')

I think I have seen you TL before when I had been in the Rockville area but techincally I think don't you would beat it because they supposed to run about a 14.1 stock and with the mods on your TL( not saying it cant), I don't think you will beat it but in that same aspect the drive of the Z maybe couldn't drive. I know I could beat a Z but then again I got quite a few mods including a 100 shot of nos.

I totally agree it was a freak occurance that I beat him. He either didn't know we were racing, retarded or a combo of the 2.

On a side note, where did you get your NOS installed and what did it cost?

Thanks,

Joe
