Should I be able to beat an I35?

My friend just got an Infiniti I35, I wanted to race him with my regular TL.

My pros and cons are:

His advantage:
1. His car has 30 more hp and alot more toque.
2. Slightly lighter weight.
3. Larger rims/wider tires.

My Advantage:
1. 5-speed SS tranny vs. his 4-speed auto.
2. No torque steer, which he has.
3. Bettern handling on bumpy or curvy roads.

Whad you guys think?

Interesting, very close if we are talking stock vs stock. Let us know.

TL cannot beat an I35, that car is slightly heavier than 02/03 Maxima's which can run quite even with TLS's. Their torque makes up for the 4spd auto, the I35 is quicker than the TL.

Oops, I meant it would be close with the TLS, TL is slower, I agree.

Actually, its not a match for a TLS. The ponies on the Maxima seem much much healthier than the I35.

You will lose to the I35. It pulls 15.2 stock. Just 100lbs heavier than a Max. However the I35 will lose to a TL-S, CL-S or 03 AV6.

Yeah like others have said, you'd need the TL Type S to keep up with an I35.

The 255hp Maximas / I35s should be able to walk a TL-P with no problem. Torque steer isn't as big of a problem as long as he knows how to launch well.

Hey I raced a 99 maxima today and i smoked him for the most part on the highway we ended up arriving at the Mall at the same time and he asked me if I had any work on my TL..i told him no and he was surprised. he had headers and exhaust and my baby is bone stock. I guess it depends on the driver..i got it up to 120 mph dam that felt good!

My stock 2k3 Maxima can pull nearly even w/ my modded TL-S ...

You do the math.

I35 = super-slightly heavier Maxima

Even with the Comptech I/H on your TLS, your stock 2k3 Max can run pretty even with it?? :wow:

You'd be surprised... the powerbands are soooo very different on both engines .. and the gearing is also very different .. unless it's super cool out .. like the 50's it's been lately at night . --> the max will pull strong w/ the TL-S ... it's lighter and just as powerful stock for stock, and the low-end is great for a fwd sedan.

I haven't run them side by side to over 70mph .. but i'd imagine the TL-S w/ the mods would edge out the max .. The max's auto gearing SUX@@$%@#$

The I35 will edge out a regular TL (it better with 30 more hp) but is no match for a TL-S. I remember reading somewhere it does 0-60 in 7 secs. That's pretty slow for a 255 hp car.

The TL-S is 3700lbs w/ a full tank and a 150lb driver.. that ISN'T overweight??? The TL-S could stand to lose about 300lbs.. .unfortunately they found a way to add 100lbs for the '04 model year.
