I'm looking to put Comptech springs on my '99 TL. I am wondering if it is necessary for me to upgrade the shocks also. What are the pros and cons of upgrading the shocks?

no need, if you put shocks in now, save an alignment when you need new ones later one! Comptechs are pretty easy on teh stock shocks.

in general, higher spring rate and shorter springs translate into greater forces on shocks. stock shocks are not designed to handle the extra loads. you risk killing your shocks prematurely if you do not upgrade shocks.

 

How many miles do you have on your TL? If you have about 30,000 miles or so, I would change the shocks/struts too so you won't have to pay for labor to do them again later on down the road.
