shifting out of park to reverse...
Does anybody notice transition between Park and Reverse is really unstable?
Especially if your car is facing downhill, the move between park and reverse is really harsh. I hear a very loud click as if the gear slams into place. I feel the car jolt as well.
Anyone relate?

I definitely know what you are talking about. I have that happened to me everytime I parked on an incline. The best way to fix this is to put the car into park and stepping on the emergency brake at the same time. Then when you start the car again, put it into drive and release the emergency brake.
I hope this helps.

the best thing to avoid that is to use your parking brake.
1) Stop the car.
2) Shift into park.
3) Before letting go of the brake pedal, engage the parking brake.
and do the reverse process when you leave the parking space.
This will not only extend the life of your transmission it will alleviate the harsh noise.

Is this a defect??
Has anyone taken it to the dealership and had it repaired?
btw, Thanks for the suggestions. I actually do perform the "emergency brake" shuffle. Reminds me of the day's with the clutch. Good thing I still have the right foot, , left foot, right hand thing down....
I guess it's another bad feature about our tranny.

When you say reverse the process, do you mean this?
1) apply brakes
2) release emergency brake
3) shift out of park to R/D.

Actually, my car is going into the shop right now because of a problem with shifting from park into reverse. Its not while on an incline though, it is every time no matter where you are. It takes a long pause before it engages that gear.

There is no defect...that will happen in any car. My driveways are all on inclines, and if you release the pedal before pushing the parking brake in, you will hear a loud clanking noise. it's normal.

using the parking brake supposedly saves your tranny from unnecessary wear. If you:
1. throw into Neutral
2. Hold down brake pedal
3. press down on parking brake
4. release the brake pedal and allow weight of car to rest on it
5. throw into park.
you will feel it is significantly softer to shift thru the gates than if you just held the brake pedal and put into park. I forgot who it was who suggested doing this, but it was from this forum, and it really does help.

i hear you Shoofin about it being normal...my drive is also on an incline, but it could sound so harsh at times as if i'm grinding gears or the tranny is about to drop.
