Can anyone please put together a DIY for cleaning the shift solenoid, maybe with pictures?
I tried doing it this past weekend but I was only able to get the front most bolt even with the battery and intake pipe out of the way. There is a rectangular black 'pipe' with wiring there that's an obstruction and I could not figure out how to go around it. With an extended ratchet I could access the rear most bolt but the one in the middle would be out of reach.

My car is a 99 TL so I don't know if it's the same for those who have successfully done this. I can post pics of what I'm talking about but if anyone can give info that would be great.

WHat bolts are you talking about and what rectangular thing is in the way?

Thanks, but I already included that thread in my post that it was not sufficient. Markk had posted pictures it seems but his photobucket is apparently inactive so no pics.

 

I know how hard it is to get to those bolts. I cleaned the shift and linear solenoids about a week ago. To get the shift solenoid out I used a 10mm socket on the front bolt and a 10mm wrench on the middle and the back bolt. I'm getting used to working in the tightness of the compartment. I found it easier to get to the back bolt by reaching behind the intake to the throttle body. I never had to take mine out but it does afford you some room. Not as easy as the atf change but definitely not impossible. I've found that a little patience goes along way. Is your tranny shifting erraticaly?

 

The rectangular box that you're speaking of houses wiring for the engine bay. I couldn't find how to move it out of the way but with the socket and wrench it was an easy workaround.

 

Its been a LONG time since i have looked at teh auto but that harness is either held on with a bolt or there is a tab on it that clips on to a bracket. once removed you can get to those bolts easier.

 

so after i cleaned my solenoid yesterday on my way to school today after work my check engine light came on. i pulled the codes and i got p0700 transmission control and a p1753 manufacturer controlled transmission
