shift point

When I have my car in D4 and i floor it in first, it shifts at around 7300 rpm, but once it gets past the initial redline point it has this flatline of power..is something wrong with my transmission?

I'm a bit confused here, this is on a '99 TL?? From what I recall the redline was at 6600 (6400?) RPM. If your car goes to 7300 you have other problems and the power should go flat at this point. The rev limiter would kick in and basic efficiency of the engine is lost.

Yeah, I have a '99 and don't ever recall revving up to 7300 rpm. Is that even possible without breaking something??

When you hit 7300 rpm, does the car kind of "buck"? It slows, then goes fast, then slows, etc.?

If it is, then you are hitting the rev limiter like these guys are talking about. You'd see that in sportshift mode, not in D4.

The engine can certainly take 7300 revs for a short period. Heck, I've hit 8100 RPM on my CL-S6 on a missed down shift :o and car was fine, dynoing 247 NA WHP a short time later. I also recently did a compression test with all numbers between 220 - 230 PSI.

If it is one or two hundred past redline it would be fine. But if it is 500+ above redline then I suspect there is a problem.
