I didn't want to start another thread about what gas everyone uses but I wanted to share this with everyone who lives in SoCal....

I have always used Chevron gas under the belief that it was the "best" gas there was (damn marketing with their cute cartoon cars). Three nights ago, I pulled into my usual station but for some reason all the pumps were disabled. I really needed some gas as my fuel light was on so I pull into the closest station there is, a Shell. I've never used Shell before as I noticed it was usually 3 or 4 cents more expensive than even Chevron and I didn't think there was any value added. Anyway, the next day when I'm driving down the 10E, I notice my car is really more responsive when I push down the pedal. I'm totally trying to figure out why the sudden performance boost when I remember I used Shell the night before.

Has anyone else had the same experience? I don't mind paying a few cents more if I can get such peppier performance!

 

I tried it a little over a week ago but didn't pay much attention. I wish someone had some more specifics about what exactly they are doing to the gasoline and if it would even make a difference.

 

My 99'er runs a LOT better on Shell V-Power. Engine is more quiet, less resonation, and on top of that, i am getting 5mpg MORE with city driving than using Chevron or Acro premium fuels, etc .. Acura 101 West (my dealer) adviced me to use V-Power and they seem to have been right.

Studies have shown that Shell gas is among the cleanest - if not the cleanest fuel. I have never used it, but have friends who use it on a regular basis (and know nothing about cars) and noticed all of the exact same improvements that were mentioned in the above post. They've also told me how they notice a big difference when they AREN'T able to fill up with Shell. So I say keep fillin' 'er up!

 

I only use the V-Power...I love it!

 

I think I'm going to have to give it a try. I've always used Sunoco because it's right around the corner from me but I'm curious to try Shell now. Wanker, are you sure your not working for Shell?? hehe

 

I only used to use mobil 93 octane fuel.....all until one day I needed gas and I also ended up at the next closest place which happened to be Shell, I put in the V-power, I had heard about it but didn't look into it at all cuz I was happy with mobil and I figured like most things it was probably just a gimmick. But I have to say my 99 sounds and feels a lot more responsive and we all know our cars are pretty quiet and smooth but even this improved on that. I recommend trying it, I felt improvement the first time I used it just after 8 miles or so. I would also suggest letting your car go to almost completely empty before filling with this just to be able to notice the difference between your previous fuel.

 

I always use Shell gas, even before V-Power came out, just because I noticed my car really didn't like Sheetz gas (93 octane at both stations, but there was a major difference in how the engine preformed). Any ways, something to keep in mind - when they say the have 5x (or however many times) more cleaning agents than what is required, that's really not saying much. They're comparing themselves to the standard imposed by OPEC or whatever, not other gas stations. Who's to say that Mobil's gas doesn't have 10x the amount of cleaning agents, but just don't advertise it. So really, Shell's advertising campaign doesn't mean much unless you can see what the other stations have in their gas. That said, I think V-Power is fine, even though I didn't notice any difference when they started marketing their 93 as "V-Power".

 

But just from my experience having used mobil 95% of the time and sunoco 5% of the time prior to using shell. Since using shell I have noticed an improvement.

 

I have always used Shell V-Power, but am thinking of switching to ExxonMobil. I have been told by other that Exxon works well also.... On average using Shell I get about 22-23 miles per gallon, and I sit in traffic in the morning and in the evening and also drive somewhat aggresively.....

 

I don't know anything specifically related to this V-Power gas or whatever (different than usual Shell Premium gas??), but Canadian studies have proven that Shell gasoline is by far the cleanest here compared to the other brands they tested.

Just like food in your body - the more fit you are to begin with and the healthier food you ingest - the more efficient and healthy your body will run. Same idea with gasoline used in a car.

 

when i had the TL it loved the 94 octane sunoco stuff.

 

i bounce between shell and sunoco depending on which one is there when i need it. i wish there werent so many damn bp's. i havent noticed anything about the v-power shell stuff that make me think about it but maybe i'll try it for a little bit and see.

 

I was a ExxonMobil guy (had the credit card), but now have switched over to Shell for the past year or so. Shell definitely gives you a longer range under the same driving conditions. I can almost guarantee that you will lose mpgs when you switch to EM 93.

Actually, Shell has a credit card too for 5% off of their gas, through Citibank.

For the most part gas is gas. All the major oil and independent oil companies trade gasoline. The only thing that makes one brand different from another is the additive package they put in when they load the tanker.

Oil companies love people who buy premium gasoline because they make more cpg on premium than on regular.

Stay with the major brands and buy gasoline at a clean high volume station and you will be fine. You will not be able to see any significant mileage differences from one brand to the next.

I work for one of the major gasoline companies.

 

V-Power just has waaaay more cleaning agents than other brands' gas, meaning there's less actual gasoline entering your engine per gallon, and more foreign agents. I could see it helping on older cars with carbon build-ups and whatnot, but not on newer cars with low mileage.

I only use Mobil and I also had nearly run out and after driving for 5 miles on the highway looking for Mobil1, I said screw it and pulled into Shell. My engine actually got louder and I did not like the way it felt. I used only Mobil for nearly 25k miles on the car so maybe that was it. Nonetheless, I am not using V-Power anymore.

 

 

i've been using shell before V-Power, for like 4 years. i have the shell mastercard too, lol. It's pretty good gas.

 

I gotta try it now because of all these recommendations. I'm not holding my breath tho. I'll probably be disappointed.

 

dunno if it impacts new cars alot.......but shell in general is great quality fuel.

I work at a shell gas station. All I use is the v-power. I think I get pretty good gas milage. v-power has 5x more cleaning detergents that clean your cars engine as you drive. So if your car is olde, then this will help. I think v-power makes a difference.

 

I really don't buy into all the fuel advertising hype, but I've been going to Shell since forever because their stations aren't complete shitholes like the others. They're generally clean, well lit, and most have a squeege and fluid. At least in Houston.

 

I honestly think shell v-power is better gas than the rest.

 

I've always stuck between shell V-power and Chevron with Techron. i've never notice the diff before, but i'll pay attention now. but however, i have noticed diff. with these two gasolines compared to all others... holy moly...

I just drove 485 miles on 14.4 gallons on shell v-power with 3 people and a car full of spring break crap

Yea I def notice a difference when using shell. I switch between them and BP. My TL never felt as responsive when using other brands of gasoline

 

I always get either Shell or Mobile 93 for my car, I think its worth it, and the performance gain is definetley noticeble.

 

since its revived might as well say, i use sunoco when i can afford high octane i go with sunocos ultra 94.. once when i put v-power for a trip to ohio the car felt sluggish so i decided never again

 

When I use Shell, i get 10% boost in mpg over no-name premium gas off the military base.
I don't know why, but I buy it for this reason.
