Question Shaking when idle

Well I've had my car for 4 days now w/470 miles and I've noticed that my car shakes (shivers) a little when it is in park with the engine running. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm used to my quiet lexus and that's why I notice it much more with the TLS.

Thanks

They call this rough idling I think? I am feeling the same thing with my car. Sounds like the engine is mis-firing or something. You can literally hear the tones and the vibration through the steering wheel. Not very noticeable but as the owner for the car, I feel everything movement this car makes. I mentioned this to the service guy at Acura before but he said it is normal because I've been using the AC. My AC was off at the time of inspection. I will try and force them to hook up my engine to the computer and see what they can find. This has been bothering me since day one. I'll have them check it out on the next oil change.

My 2000 TL has always had this. Mentioned it to my old dealer twice, and they said it was a normal characteristic of the car, and had to do with the emissions. Never asked Park Ave about it though. They would really tell us the truth behind it. Every TL I've been in seems to do it though, so I'm pretty sure it's normal.

This happens even when my AC is off. This is bothering me!

hey guys, I have had this problem.

When i first got the car it just ran funny. I was kinda scared i did somthing wrong. When i started it, it would shiver and shake a little. But all that went away after 600 miles. I have 2000 miles on my car and all that went away. It runs smoothe. Feels great now that the car is broken in. Oh and i just realized today has been 1 whole month since i bought my car! Happy times!!

I have the same feeling in my car. However, now after having the car for 2 months now, its becoming less noticable than when my TL-S was new. I guess it's normal, but I'm gonna mention it to Park Ave when I get my oil changed soon.

I want someone to take a glass of water and leave it in their cup holder and watch it. Mine shivers on and off. It's not a steady idle.

Cool

At idle mine is as smooth and as quiet as my GS400 was. Can't hardly tell it's running!

How many miles do you have? I'm thinking that the "rough idle" goes away after getting over 1000 miles.

I only notice the rough idle with A/C on and in gear. I also had a period of a couple of weeks where it "died" (stalled out) on me. It hasn't don that in several weeks since, but it still has a "lope" at idle. I suspect it must by that awsome cam they have in the S engine. ;-)

Seriously though. I saw another post sometime back where someone had a "Slow Speed Test" performed. I believe that's what they called it. Anyway, I'm going to have it checked out in 3-4 weeks when I take it in for the oil service.

The only thing I've noticed with my car is the small jerk a few seconds after I come to a complete stop. I have not noticed any abnormal vibrations that you mention.

It's just the 260 "ponies" getting a bit restless under the hood.

Yeah sure at Idle. Anyways I own a 99 TL, had this problem after couple thousand miles on it. Mine vibrates too. I had the dealer check it out more than 7 times. At the beginning they said it was normal, now that is way more noticeable, they finally admitted that it was vibrating. They have tried many things to fix. Put new engine mounts, change transmission, new spark plugs, service the EGR valve, check the oxygen sensor, replace cat. Converter. Nothing has fixed it, I'm sure they don't know how, because they wouldn't expend all that money fixed it, if they knew what it was. I got a CL type S for a loaner and it was vibrating too. One thing fix it for a couple of minutes, ECU reset, so there is your hint. If anyone figures this out, I'll send you a check for $50.00 bucks. No kidding.

Thumbs up

I am on my second TL. I've only put a total of 3800 miles on the both of them combined but either one of them idles so smooth that It was hard to tell if the engine was running. The first was a 2001 TL and my pride and joy is a 2002 TLS. Take the car back to the dealer if it does not idle and run smoothly. There should never be a ripple in a glass good wine in the cup holder. For the passenger of course!!!

I took my car to the dealer today to get a ding removed from my hood (happened when it got delivered) and I asked the service guys about the "rough idle". They said that's normal and it's because of powerful engine. They also said that it will get smoother when I get more miles on my car. He said not to worry.

I hit 600 miles today...I think I'm gonna baby it until I reach 1000 miles.
