Shaking over 80mph - fixed!

For two years now, my TL has had this annoying shake anytime I approached 80mph. I took it to the dealer several times - had the rotors resurfaced, the wheels balanced off the car, and the wheels balanced on the car. Nothing fixed it - it was really, really frustrating. So frustrating I tried to sell the car last month with 45K miles on it, but didn't have any takers before I needed to put new tires on it.

I put new Bridgestone Potenza RE-92 tires on it - and the shaking disappeard. I couldn't believe it! The stock Michelin High Energy tires must really, really, suck. In addition, the handling improved dramatically - it's almost like a brand new car! So good, I've given up trying to sell it and will keep it a couple more years!

Anyone else had this problem?

Why doesnt Acura just put the good tires on there $35,000 CAR! Come on man this is just stupid... I bet they dont cost more than the Stock Tires Maybe $400 at most.. Thats not a big Money on a $35k if it totally changes the handling..

Well, these tires must be good for something if an S500 comes with them...

Your stock tires may had a problem with them due to uneven wear. It happens to even the best of tires

i just noticed tonight that when i brake, the wheel shakes slightly. I had this problem before but when i took it to the dealer it was fixed, now its comming back. if the car is lowered and i take it to the dealer, will my warranty be voided?

your warranty can never be voided unless Acura 100% proves that a mod you have done is causing the fault, even than they cant void the warranty. All they will say is we cannot look into the problem till the MOD is removed...

This is only partially correct. A mod does not automatically void a warranty, as you correctly stated. You also correctly stated the burden of proof is on Acura to demonstrate that the failure in question was caused by the mod, but it doesn't have to be 100%. If the mod caused the failure even in part, the warranty claim can be denied. And if a mod *is* shown to be the cause of the failure, they do not have to honor the warranty once the mod is removed. A voided warranty is a voided waranty--it doesn't become "unvoided" by simply removing the mod.

RE-92's are a decent tire. Toyota uses a lot of them a lot (Camrys, Avalons, Solaras, etc.) My Avalon came stock with them. I actually replaced them with Michelin Pilot XGT's and enjoyed them much more. I also do not like the MXV4's except for their long tread life.

My TL shook at those speeds from day 1 - so it was definitley not uneven tire wear - just really bad tires! Like I said before, the handling is so much better, it feels like a completely different car. All 4 Potenzas installed cost $450...

The Michelins are good all-around tires. No one seems to get that the majority of the TL population is not looking for a high-performance tire. They want long tread life, good all-around use, snow, rain, dry.... The Michelin fits that bill pretty well.

I use them all winter long and have no problem with them.

Hellz yeah for the price I 'd have to agree. The Michelins are overrated. Yes, michelin makes some good high performance tires but ours are not performance tires, and for that price I'd much rather buy the potenza's. Shieeet... I m rolling on some cheap ass Kumho Ecstas and they are so much better all around. I got em 100 a pop

I like the Pirelli's personally, they ride so nice on 20's

Sorry the S500 uses Pilot Sports
"On our S500 they housed massive 18-inch Michelin Pilot Sport "
