SF Bay Area TL Drivers Beware

My home girl recently had her 02 TLS stolen... when I asked her what happened she explained that the insurance adjuster stated that the theives had a master key to gain entry to her car.

So for those who live in the area... Beware! and on site.

How was it mastered keyed and engine started? Our keys have an immobilizer.... I know about the "master key" trick and i know that a lot of people know about it in SF..... but they still shouldnt have been able to start the car ... unless they just broke in and put it in neutral and towed it away thats the only possibility i can think of. I've seen the "master key" done to my car by my friends but they cant start the engine... at most they can crank it but they cant start the engine. But yeah..... from what I noticed is that it happens in SF more than anyplace.... thats one reason why I brought my car from SF to college here in Riverside. It isnt really done in these areas

They shouldn't be able to start the car with a master key since we have an immobilizer.

Where was your homegirl's TL parked? Neighborhood or cross streets.... I'm actually really surprised cuz we rarely hear about stolen TLs....only the headlights which is just as bad.

The immobilizer can be bypassed from what I understand. This is not the right place to discuss such an issue, but just know that a professional thief who really wants your car could bypass the immobilizer.

I know a lot of people who think their cars can't be stolen because of that thing... But its certainly not true.

Cover part of your VIN on your front windshield. It may be illegal in some places, so double-check. i've heard of scams where people go to a dealership (honda/acura) ... check your VIN on the database, can cut a key/program the immobilizer and they drive off with your car. (just like in 'gone in 60 seconds'!)
