Service schedule

2003 TLS with 28000 miles. Dealer service dept. has their own servicing sched. which includes at 30K or two years changing oil, of course, in cabin filter, air filter, auto trans fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze. However owners manual does not rec trans fluid, brake fluid, or antifreeze this soon. This car maintained well with oil changes and even changed trans fluid around 15K, rotated tires etc. Just a money making schedule by the dealer?

The cabin filter and air filter are easily replaced. ATF should be changed every 15k. Brake fluid, maybe, depend on your mechanical level. Antifreeze, too messy, but you can do it.

Yes, they're all money maker for the dealer.

My brother asked the dealer for a quote to replace the cabin air filter. The dealer said $100. I said WTF. Filters are about $40. They were going to charge 45 min of labor for 10 min job. I ended up replacing the filter for him.

Good luck

Thanks for comments. I can change the air filter and cabin filter myself. The trans fluid every 15 K is more frequent than manual states but I can see the impt. of having that done. However is brake fluid and antifreeze change really needed at 30K 2yr mark?

Another thought, for your air filter just go buy K&N for $50. It pays for itself in about a year or two. Better gas mileage too.

Antifreeze, i think every 60K should be a good interval.

Brake fluid, that's all depend on your driving habits. Check the color, if it's getting dark then yes. If it's still clear, then I wouldn't worry about it.

When I changed out the brake fluid on my Vigor, the pedal felt much firmer, but the brake fluid in the car was like ice tea color. We live on a big hill so the brake get tested every time we leave the house.

i agree, 60K is when u should start changing stuff. these cars are made to last a very long time, no need to change tranny or antifreeze at less then 60K. Antifreeze doesn't even need to be changed, I always only added on my civic and it had 102,000 miles all driven by me!
