Sequential Shift problems

Has anyone ever had a problem with the sequential shift(manual) mode not responding?

It will either pause longer than normal or won't shift at all when I move the shifter and it's not because I didn't move it far enough. It happens from 2nd to 3rd; 4th to 3rd; and 3rd to 2nd. I haven't noticed it from 3rd to 4th, or with 4th to 5th or vice versa. I'm taking it in Friday to have it checked, I'm already on my 3rd transmission. Would this have anything to do with the transmission issues or something else?

Is the light that indicates which gear SS is in working?- does it say 2- 3 4 etc or no response at all?

There is a selenoid/eletrical contact below the shifter plate that can get dirty or go bad

Using SS mode simply tells the ecu to shift the trans. It sounds like the ecu isnt getting the signal from the shifter??

I didn't think it was mechanical, although I would like another transmission before my warranty is up. It could also just be me, though I hope not, I don't think I'm crazy but crazy people never think they are.

My car does the same thing. I figured it was just the ecu thinking it knows whats best. Just like how it shifts from 1-2 by itself. Sometimes my car wont downshift from 4-3 when I know I have at least 1000 rpms to spare. The most annoying thing, though, is the 2-3 shift. It always shifts 2-3 when I am flooring it and shifting close to redline, or if I am driving slow and shifting around 2 or 3 grand. The problem is when I drive semi fast. If I am giving it a good amount of gas and want to shift at around 4-6 grand, it NEVER shifts going from 2-3 the first time. Its like the ecu is thinking" "you still have rpm to spare and your giving alot of gas, so you need to hold this gear". I have to push the shifter a second time. This is annoying as hell. I thought all tl-s did this.

Sounds like its not making contact very well. Have you ever spilled any thing like soda or coffee in the area of the shifter?

Never spilled anything since I have owned it (at 58k). Like I said, it always does it on the 2-3 shift. Never at any other gear change and never if I am flooring it or driving slow, only with moderate/fast acceleration.

That may be the culprit on mine. I thought it only did it in certain gears at certain rpm, but after really paying attention to it I noticed that it is kinda random. What is that a picture of and how do I get to it?

thats the side of the whole shift unit(not in the car) i did some testing with this thing, i noticed that when you move the knob to the left for SS it touches those prongs and based on movement up or down mooves them in a way that tells the ecu when to shift. those prongs have a wire that leads to the rest of the shift unit. im trying my best to explain, ill get out my camera and take better pics of it. maybee fsttms1 can chime in

^I know what you are trying to, makes sense. The dealer said nothing is wrong with the transmission, but that there are other issues but would not say what. I ran some wiring past the shifter but on the passenger side and under the carpet, so that's not in the way. Anything should be warrantied anyway, I think it's $1500 very well spent.

On an side note, they did give me an '06 TSX with NAV to abuse for a coule days. Maybe an e-brake turn or two, becuase with ours its kinda hard with your foot, its not like I'm going to try to catch any air with it. I do like the guage cluster lights though.

I find that under hard acceleration where I'm accelerating around redline, when I shift to 2 to 3 or 3 to 4, it has 2-3 sec lag...

Yea, sometimes I have the down shift problem while in SS mode. Not all the time, but it does happen.

There is a slight lag when shifting in SS mode, but not 2-3 seconds. Maybe more like 1-2.
