Not surprising.

The 1st generation TL's have their problems too. My folks have an '03 TL and I have a '97 TL w/ premium package. They've had more problems with theirs than mine.

I've had to deal with a bad starter, but that affected all the Legends and 1st gen 6 cylinders.

As for my Dad's TL, he's had a bad transmission ( He was told that his late year VIN would NOT be affected, turns out later not to be the case)

He's had some squeaks and annoying rattles and has only 15,000 miles on it. I have nearly 113,000 miles on mine and only my glovebox rattles (I have since fixed it).

Now this is just food for thought, I CANNOT judge ALL TL's from these two examples but it makes me wonder sometimes.

Like rvl123 said. Only the 2002 TL got 4 out of 5. The rest of the 2nd gen TL has 5 out of 5. So it would be wrong to say "The second gen TL is the only TL to not recieve 5 star rel........."

The transmission problem affects all 2nd gen CLs and TLs regardless of the model year.

probably because that's when the Type S came out. Reading the posts on the forum, it seems the typeS trannies break down more often than the TL-p's. Not a big surprise since the type has extra horsepower/torque.
