screw in my tire

On my way to work I accelerate form the toll booth and then all of a sudden feels like i'm rolling over something. Ugh.

I've already had one tire replaced so if i were to get another replacement i'd have, 2 old, 1 newer and 1 new. Forget it. I'll just get new rubber all the way around. SO.

I think i'm going with michelin pilot sport A/S. What size though?

You'll get a better response if you post this in the tire/wheels forum.

I have one stock CLS tire for sale if interested. 15k on it, 55% tread left, treated nicely to Meguires. email if interested fastdaddycar@yahoo.com

For an all season tire good for our climate (I am in NJ), I went with Mich Pilot Sport A/S in 225/50 size on the stock CLS rims. I have them for a month and 1k miles. Very nice, should have come with our cars to begin with. Handles great in cold/rain/slush. I went to costco, they were $199 plus $9 for mount/balance/roadhazard.

There may be other cheaper a/s tires available. The Mich has a treadwear of 400, and traction AA.

I'm not paying to patch a crap tire. I'll just pay for new rubber all the way around. Look at my current layout:

newer-------old
|
|
|
|
old--------old

If i change it with new stock :

newer-------old
|
|
|
|
new--------old

So at most they might put the two older tires upfront but that would screw up the tire rotation cycle. I delt with one new and one old tire on the front axle once already and let me tell you the road noise, thumping, and bad MPG i felt was not fun! Thus, new rubber all the way around.

$992 for new tires Lucky i've been saving for mods. I guess i'll have to put off RES. But in a month i'll have new suspension, new tires, headers, exhaust

The same damn thing happened to my girls Land Rover.

There was a flat head screw stuck in the right front tire.

Being the jackass that I am, I got some pliers, and pulled it out, of course I could hear air leaking, so i had to put it back in.

Then, I couldn't get the lug nuts off to put the spare on.

Apparently, only a land rover dealership could get them off.

We had it towed, and fixed the next day.

Thank God daddy is a millionaire, because I sure as hell didn't wanna have to pay for that.!

Patching a tire and plugging a tire is two separate things. Patching is better but it involves dismounting the tire and patching it from inside. You have the additional labor of dis-mounting, mounting and balancing.

Plugging just involves........well plugging. A simple strip of gooey sh!t wich you plug into the hole and galvanizes? with the rubber.

I carry an air compressor and a professional plugging kit in my trunk. If I get a nail on the road somewhere, I just plug it and off I go. Unless it's on the sidewall

Don't buy those cheap plastic handled plugging kits you see at auto parts chains, I wouldn't trust the plastic handles on those spike like plug driving tools. Imagine the spike goes ass backwards through the handle and through your palm. Ouch! There is allot of force needed to get a plug in the tire sometimes. The good ones are made out of metal throughout.

Town Fair Tire chain in my area will fix flats for *free* even if you didn't buy the tire from them. But only if it is a tread puncture. Tear a sidewall or shred something and naturally, you're on your own. I've had about four fixed by them over the years and they always do a top notch job.

Isn't it dangerous to drive a plugged or patched up a tire? At least that's what I heard. I just wanted to be sure.

Not if it's done properly. I got more than 20,000 miles on my last tire plug on my 97 Accord with no problems.

It's not dangerous if it is properly done. I would imagine a patch is safer then a plug at extreme circumstances.

However, it is dangerous to repair anywhere other then the tread area (contact patch area). The sidewalls and the corner where the tread and sidewall meet are off limits when it comes to repairing. If there is a puncture within that area, the tire is garbage.
