Rusty Rear Rotors

A few weeks back, the dealer had my rear rotors resurfaced at 5,000 kms (3,000 miles) apparently for "sitting too long on the lot". Now, everytime I wash the car, the rear rotors get rusty after getting splashed with water, etc... After driving it for a bit, I noticed that the rust on the rear rotors seem not to fade as much as the front ones do. I'm afraid that if this "builds up" the rears may need to be machined again after a few thousand miles or so. No matter how nicely clean you get the car, he rusty rear rotors look just as bad as as rusted out rear drums, it's ugly.

I noticed that on Audis and Volvos, they have rotors that appear to be made from a different metal, looking closely, they do not appear to be rusty or corroded like an Acura's and the "shine" seems to be uniform front and back.

Do they use a different type of rotor, if so, are they available for our cars?

Vicman

Why in the world they resurfaced the rotors just because it was sitting on the lot its beyond me. As far as rusting, like with any other metal exposed to weather, it will react and get rusty looking. It should go away on your first step on th brake, it could be that they cut a little too much into the rotor but still it should go away once you brake.
The Audis and Volvos have different rotors. there's a lot of aftermarket rotors out that will fit our cars and needs, from inexpensive to racing type that you have to work for a year to get them. It's up to you and your wallet and your driving style.

it doesnt wear off as fast as the front do because 70% of the stopping power comes from the front. just drive it some more and it will come off.

Rusty Rotors

I had the same problem - bought my car and it was on the lot for two months.

Mine were so rusty they were making a scratching sounds that annoyed me to death.

Eberyone said I will drive it off but 2000 miles later same noise and rust.

I just bought new rotors.

And PS. They all get some rust - it's normal.

My dealer completely replaced mine for the same reason. Both back and front
