Rusty Brakes???

Anyone else notice their brakes rusting? Looks pretty bad, cause you can see it so easily with the design of the wheels.

The rotors are made of iron. Its natural that they rust. If you think it looks bad then you can get new rotors (slotted/cross drilled etc) or simply paint them.

Hey Daryl:

I tried "rotor rust" and found some posts - maybe the salt air at Check's Beach affects the search engine???/

Actually, it's "Chick's" Beach, and to respond to your statement, the salt air would have zero effect on the quality of the search engine. I do appreciate your attempt, or lack thereof, at the Virginia Beach geography. Maybe deep inside you really knew the name but just mispelled it. Matter or fact, since you are always right, that is what we will go with. Cool?

Ha!

I've got one thing to say about people who insist on a search being done before asking a question. WHAT IS THE POINT OF AN INTERACTIVE FORUM IF IT TURNS INTO ONE BIG FAQ!!!!

Let people ask questions and have interaction with the community. If you are irritated by seeing posts with a question that has already been asked, THEN GET OFF THE THREAD! The interaction and up to date answers are why I keep coming to this site, so don't discourage people from posting.

Daryl: I never said I was always right and when I am not I admit it. That is part of being a grown up, as is politeness I might add. I know it is Chick's Beach BTW. Thank you for pointing out that my typing is not all it should be.

Optimus Prime - thanks for the lecture, but I could care less what people post. I try to be helpful, and merely was pointing out that many topics have more depth of posting than the "latest" top of the head posts. And for nearly all of them, there is no new "thinking" to be had, including this thread. The rotor hats on Acuras rust - there is no problem - one can paint them.

not if he is talking about the actual face of the rotor that the pads touch...after any wash, they start rusting right away...nothing that ya can do about that

Politeness? I didnt use the correct terminology to do a search, thus rendering zero results and you have to point out that in a post? You specifically mentioned "disc hat" and said there were topics in this forum before. Guess what - I gained nothing from doing a search on that topic. That is all that I was pointing out and was actually expecting someone to give a solution like your statement "The rotor hats on Acuras rust - there is no problem - one can paint them." , in the beginning instead of 12 posts later. Had you done that to begin with I wouldnt have had to waste my time typing this....Besides, the majority of things that I type to you that may seem sarcastic, are just that. Take a joke here and there and ease up on the father figure thing.

Are you talking about your caliper or rotors. I will asume rotors, because it is normal to rust if they get wet and you don't used them.

you mean paint the top part of the rotor, right?

Slotted nor crossdrilled would make a difference for rusting.

At 12 000 km checkup at the dealer, they painted all the 4 brakes in black or come antirust color. I thought it was bad, but they said it was to prevent rust.

It is true, caus I live in Montreal Canada, and it starting to get cold and snowing.

Maybe, ask your dealer to have them painted with an antirust stuff.

its like a game- everyone wants to find the latest post by the newbie, and be the first to scream at them to go do a search

is that how you people get so many posts?
if you dont like someone's "stupid" question, ignore it

sorry cschaul for wasting space here, but i too have noticed the "rusty" brakes- the first night i got my car.. but i try to just ignore it

Quack! You are right, but ignored the depth issue - doing a Search first usually gives a far more comprehensive answer than the latest two-bit answer. I just love having to page thru 100 posts of "my maintenance light is on".

Why WOULD you page through 100 posts if you already know the answer?
