Rough Idling, and weird noises when in park

Hey all,

I went to the Toronto TL meet last saturday and one of the guys there noticed that my car was making a weird "scratching" noise when you rev above 3000 RPM in park...however it's not when you actually push the gas, it's when the RPM's are on the way down that this sound is created...

I'm also getting a bit of rough idling when in park. At first I figured it was the bass coming from my music, but even when the stereo is off, and the A/C is set to off, it still idles a bit rough.

One of the guys at the meet said it could be a leak in the intake system. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having, or has had the same problem with their TL-S.

I'm on my way to the dealer to get it fixed in about an hour, so if someone can give me feedback before that, so atleast I have a general idea of what it can be, I can pass that info on to the person who tests the vehicle.

Thanks in advance.

A leak in the intake system usually will cause an elvated idle. Might be the IAC valve malfunctioning. Let me know what they find.

I have BOTH of your issues... both are benign, no major remedies.

I have the "hiss/scratch" when I rev to about 4000 rpms in park and let the tach come down.... it's normal

I also have a rough idle... which may indicate that I need a tune-up now that I have the headers and the intake... i too thought it was the bass... but it's not .. it vibrates a little rough also when i'm at a stop light and i hold down the brake

pm me if you want more info

well my TL-S is freaking brand new...well only 4 months old. So I took the car to the dealer, and we compared it against an identical car. another A-Spec in blue, we took off the lot, started her up, and revved the engine...well low and behold, the car made the exact same noise, so I'm no longer worried about anything.
