Rock chips...should I touch up or sand/paint?

Hmmm it seems the crappy water based paint job has struck again. So I have a NBP 02 TLS...aka very easy to see paint chips, and I have quite a few (8-10)...I hate rocks...and I hate Texas rocks especially. So I can get all that touched up, which won't look good as new...or I can get the whole hood sanded and repainted, which is as good as new (better actually, because no water based paint) but I will have paintwork that's on my car (you can tell on the front hood rim). So which should I do? Will it matter if I have paintwork if I explain why and keep the receipts? Suggestions?

repaint the whole thing if its that bad, and then put on a clear bra. If u dont, all the work will be futile.

Oh I know, I will be putting on a full Xpel kit once I do it. I just want to know if I should touch up or full repaint. I assume you suggest full repaint.

It's very hard to say without seeing pictures. I lived in Florida and dealt with the horrendous "love bugs". For the most part I just used touch-up paint, but after moving to CA I actually had the entire front bumper on my CL repainted. It's not cheap, I can tell you that, but it does look new as opposed to the "looks new from a distance" touch-up paint.

Well let's say I'm getting this for free. Should I do touch up or full repaint?

WELL, since you're getting it for FREE...

A full repaint will definitely look better and will hold up to future damage better than a touch-up job. My only concern would be to make sure the body shop is competent and does an excellent job. What you don't want is the color match to be just a little off or for the paint to start flaking in two years or something because they rushed it or didn't really know what they were doing.

Heck yes, I'm taking dropping mine off today for a repaint of a section, we'll see how it turns out.

I sound like such a broken record, but even though it's an Acura body shop I encourage you to take a close look at the work once they're done. I had my repainting done at an Acura body shop, too, and I had to bring it back twice to correct things they'd done wrong. You should be fine, and I don't mean to worry you unnecessarily, but just make sure they do a first-class job like you deserve!

If it's free, go for a repaint!! But I'm still wondering how did you get it for free??? I want to talk to my dealer too since they chipped a big section of paint by replace the wipers and a scratch line on my rear bumper by wash the car.

Go talk to the service manager...also what I'm hurting about but I didn't mention and now it's too late. My car locked me out...with the keys in it and the locksmith scratched my metal trim up pretty bad in one spot opening it up (he was really stupid and tried to pull up the lock and open the doorhandle, before I said "ya know you could just press down on the window button") and so now I'm screwed
