Cool Road Trip to LA - Just me and the TL!

In LA this week. Drove down yesterday. took about 5 hrs to go 400 miles.

Even though it was 5 hrs, it only felt like about 3. Nice smooth comfy ride.

Gas milage was excellent too, the TL is definately made for road trips.

I have come to realize, driving around LA for a day, that no matter what city you are in, there will ALWAYS be dumbass drivers on the road. You have to be careful of them. Especially drivers of Camrys.

I-5 is great freeway to drive on. Long stright flat.. hardly any traffic. The scenery was boring but it was still cool.

Going to have to wash my car soon to get all the bugs that decided to hitch a ride.

btw, haven't been on this site for about 4 days.. it was like water to the desert.

Nice! When I drove from San Jose to LA, I took I-5 too! It was great, no heavy traffic. This time from Omaha to KC, it took me 3 hours for 250 miles. not too bad

Yup, driving on I-5 is nice. Except that there are a whole bunch of cops hiding behind the bushes and fwy on ramps... gotta be careful. This is one of the fwys where your radar detector comes extremely useful.

Where in LA are you at? What are you doing in LA?

just remember to turn off the a/c when you pass the cow farm...

smells really bad... that's why I fly to LA... that smell is unbearable...

SLVR,
Yeah, I was careful to watch out for areas where there would be cops. You usually can tell where they are if you see alot of places in the middle sections where a car has made U-Turns accross it.

I don't have a Radar Detector, should have borrowed my friends. Oh well, I don't drive that fast anyway. As long as I don't attract attention, I should be cool

I down here making some final preperations for the wedding. I up here in West Covina.

J-
I had my AC off almost the whole way, since I left pretty early in the morning, it wasn't hot at all. When I got close to the grapevine, then I started using it.

Mr. T, I'm not sure if you sold it already or not, but yes you are right. I'm interested in the TL-S HU. Hit me up on PM or email me at phanthavong@hotmail.com if it is still for sale. I don't think we retained any of our messages from the old forum version; I remember you already had an offer for it.

Hey Edub-TL,
I grew up in Riverside so I know that I-5 South drive very well! (And Bobowah's definitely right: That cow farm is stinky, stinky!)

That trip is also one of the main reasons I wanted an 'S' versus the 'P'. I wanted some extra horsepower so that I could zip through the Grapevine for once. My poor (13-yr-old) 4-cylinder Accord has a hard time in those dang mountains. I'm tired of being left behind... I want to do the leaving!

Well, sounds like your trip was nice and relaxing. You're gonna need those extra nerves when you get ready to say, "I do." (heh, heh, heh)

Later dude,

Vincent

Vincent,

The P does just fine in the grapevine. Just use SS to downshift on the uphills. I was in auto trying to pass this F150 but wasn't going anywhere, then I went to SS, downshifted to 3rd.. and man, took off with the engine growling when the VTEC kicked in!! But you can't go that fast around there anyway, everyone I know has gotten a ticket in the Tejon pass cuz there is that CHP station right there.

But I'm sure there are other benifits to the S If I had the chance, I would get an S for sure. The comfy seats would have really helped. The TL headrests are not as supportive as the S headrests that tilt foward. My neck was kinda hurting when I got to LA.

225 or 400... I drive to Sacramento alot, and that is about 125(1.5hr) miles away from the BayArea. This trip to LA only seemed like it was about twice as long timewise as going to Sacto; I've probably built up my resistance to driving. 5hrs felt more like 3 hrs. And I wasn't tired when I got here. I took a little nap only cuz I went to bed at 1AM the night before and woke up around 5 to leave.

Edub-TL,
Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!! Downshift and *boom* -- pass that slow poke in front of you! You're right, the 'P' works just fine -- I just keep telling myself I *need* an 'S'. Don't spoil my dream, dude! LOL

And add me to the speeding ticket parade... I got one going downhill thru those damn mountains! I made the mistake of being the "leader of the pack" and forgot to check my six for a couple minutes. Dang CHP nailed me good -- I just smiled as he wrote the ticket. Figured he had a clean "kill" -- I'd just have to be more alert next time!

Enjoy your trip back up North,

Vincent

I took a trip down to LA last month and it took like 5hrs too. But, i was smart - i went to best buy and bought a radar detector then returned it at the end of the trip. I was pretty much speeding everywhere, but no ticket. But, i don't think thats cause of the radar detect - i didn't really feel like it was working. passed too many cops without it going off.

worst part about the trip was getting all those damn bugs off my bumper - took forever.
