Post Rims do make the car, how do you do it?

This is place to talk rims and I'm so glad that I found this website, since you are all experts in this field.

I have a 99 Black TL that would like much sportier with 5 spoke rims (similar to the TL & CL Type S).

I've seen posts where guys are outfitting their TL's with the CL Type S Rims, how do you do this and how much does it cost? I assume you will opt for new tires also too.

There are 2 questions that come to mind:

1. Will a 99 TL be able to be retrofitted properly with the thicker & larger CL Type S rims - do any modifications need to be performed?
2. Will I be charged and arm and a leg if you buy these rims and service from the dealer?
3. Is it cheaper to buy from Tirerack.com for something similar? I hear you have to get the rims with the tires sent to an authorized dealer and have them put on for you if you can't do it yourself. How did this work out for you guys?

Thanks for your help on this one and please provided your comments.

The best way to do this for cheap would be to buy wheels with mounted tires from a current CL-S or TL-S owner who is upgrading their stock rims to aftermarket rims.

Check the for sale board on this site and also places such as eBay.

And yes it does fit without having to modify anything, many a members have done this...with very satisfactory results, no rubbing nothing, if you can get the CL-S rims, might think about putting 225/45/17 tires on there also, it fits without rubbing...

I bought my CL-S wheels with the brand new Michelin Pilots from a guy who I spotted in the neighborhood who had a CL-S with 18" rims. He sold me all four wheels with the tires for $600. I then sold my TL Rims and tires for $350 on this site. So I paid $250 in the end. AMAZING DEAL

Hey thanks for all the replies. This is truly the place to do this. I think a rim and tire upgrade will hold me off just a little longer, since everyone, including myself wants a brand spanking new TL Type S sooner or later.

It probably doesn't matter, but CL Type S Rims on a TL, as good as they look, will kind of be looking like a TL Type S wannabe? Ahh doesn't matter, the rims make the car and the CL Type S rims are very nice, love the 5 spoke.
