Rims
#3
If you drive on salted roads in winter, the clearcoat of your rims gets minute cracks that let the brine (salted water) seep in and come in contact with the bare aluminum. This causes the aluminum underneath the clearcoat to corrode and cause the unsightly pits and blemishes. The solution is to get the rim re-machined and stripped down to the metal and have the clearcoat re-applied. This is common on clearcoated wheels. Painted ones corrode as well but do not show it as much.
You also might want to just use your stocks for winter and put a good set of snow tires on them, then get aftermarket (or even used) rims for the summer. You would lengthen the life of the rims and tires (both sets).
