rev limiter limit?

I searched and found another thread that said the rev limiter on the j32a2 was around 7100rpm, but that was after some mods.

I've got a bone stock 1999 tl. Today is the first time i revved it while it was in park to about 5100 - 5500rpm and quickly noticed that it was kicking or jerking back and would not go above that. You could hear and definitely feel it kicking back the rpm. I thought i broke it but then i figured it was the rev limiter that i had read about a while ago.

So my question is, what's the rev limit, while the tranny is in "park", on the j32a1 engine? And just in case, did i f-up my engine? Obviously doing this excessively is stupid. I did it four times.

Yep. When you are in park, you cannot rev you engine all the way. Should be in the range that you said you noticed it. No you did not mess up your engine. Thats why the engineers put in the lower rev limiter in park to keep your engine safe.

yes there is an idiot limiter for when car is in park- 5000 rpm

The normal in gear limit is approx 7200- the tach is not an exact device, so stay below to be safe. The max torque is lower than redline anyway- so you lose power at higher revs
VTEC comes on ~4700rpm - may vary slightly by year and model
VTEC is controlled by oil pressure sensing selenoids- keep that oil clean and changed with a quality brand

rajca get your car checked out- 5800 is too low- unless the tach redline mark is set there- I dont know every cars details~
The 03 may have exhaust restriction if it wont rev
I have seen othr cars- the cat gets plugged and the car wont rev over 5000

dang that sounds nice. makes me want to go from K&N+ resonator delete to CAI

and no 5k is supposed to be the rev lim in park or neutral. theres no load on the engine and reving it that high wont be good for it.

too easy to float a valve spring and call it done for the engine~
You dont need redline in 1st either- thats way past the max power shift point to the next gear-
thats whats important if you are trying to accellerate- when the shift completes- to be exact on the rpm thats rising in the torque/power curve!!
