How does the rev limiter work on the 2003 TLs and how do you know it worked?
What do you notice when you push the limit of 2nd, 3rd etc...
At what rpm does the rev limiter kick in for each gear?

The reason I ask is because I have noticed (twice) that when I am using the ss mode and I am in 2nd before changing to 3rd I hear the nice sound of the vtec kick in and then as I push the engine more I hear a louder growl almost like a backfire.

I was just wondering if I was over reving the engine.
Both times I did not look at where my rpm needle was.

Did I do any potential damage to the engine?

the backfiring shouldn't happen. One distinct feeling you'll get is your car will shake and feel like it's going back and forth. This is because you are "bouncing" off the rev limiter. If you are consistently bouncing off the rev limiter, you should definitely keep both hands on the steering wheel, and never ever use SS mode. On a few occassions, I got so caught up in the moment with racing someone, I forget to shift. Trust me, your car will let you know that you f*cked up by kicking the rev limiter in.

Potential Damage??? If you keep on doing this, then yes there is room for damage. Like i said, don't make it a habit, and if you must constantly hit the rev limiter, simply leave your hands on the steering wheel, and don't use SS mode!!!
