Question Resetting the ECU

Hey everyone.
I been thinking, people have told me that disconnecting the battery resets the ECU, but some people told me you can take out the ECU fuse from the fuse box on the driver side. Have any of you tried taking out the ECU fuse and putting it back in? Is it safe for the car? Which is better?

just unhook the battery for about 15 minutes - no way to screw that up. Be sure to have your radio/navi codes also.

I just purchased (3 days ago) a 2000 TL. Would it be wise to reset the ECU to adapt to my driving habits? Also, someone mentioned the radio codes. Is there a default from the factory? I have no info on the code from the previous owner.

well first - welcome to the board -

but its only wise to reset the ECU when you add a new mod to the engine or something like that. Even then it is not necessary because it will adjust and learn after a few days of driving. With the radio code, there should be a little card in your manual - if not, just go to any dealer and they can look up your code with your VIN.

So unplugging the battery would reset the ECU. The reason I'm asking because I getting my UR Pulleys Set tomorrow and people were telling me just take out the fuse from the ECU and put it back in.
So basically unplugging the battery is the same as taking out the fuse from the ECU.

yes they are the same thing. you are cutting the power to the ecu both ways. bothg are safe to do. when doing the battery method you will have to have the code for the radio
