Ok so i got this Req'd Maint light flashing for about 5-10 seconds every time i start the car and I wanna know if this is normal since I just went a little over 101 miles? or if this is something serious since I still havent cleaned the EGR cuz its been too cold and its snowing again. I cant notice any difference in performance or gas consumption or anything like that.

 

The light automatically comes on after so many miles. READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL It will tell you how to reset it.

 

the maintenance light doesnt tell you anything about your car other than its been xxx amount of miles since its been reset, i think at 5k it starts to glow solid.

If you want to reset it you have to hold down the the two buttons on you dash (trip and reset or whatever theyre called) then put your key in and turn it to the on position, but dont start, after 10 or 20 secs it will clear out.

 

just push and hold the trip and reset buttons in, then while holding them in turn the key to the run position. Continue holding them till the Maint req lite goes off (about 10 seconds) You are supposed to reset it at every oil change. Its the reminder to change your oil when it goes on solid. It will flash on start up when its getting close

its just the oil change reminder light- starts flashing about 6000 miles since last time it was reset- has no bearing on condition of anything- it gets pretty anxious at 7500 miles too!

 

oh ok good cuz i never noticed it before since I didnt have my car for that long but I did change the oil once when I got it and once after that and now I am due to change it very soon so I guess you guys are right. thanks guys, now I dont have to panic.

 

Just remember not all places know about the light so you might have to do it yourself when they dont.
