I think my tranny is about to go go fubar...do you recommend replacing it with a stock one, or a custom one? adv/disadv for each? thanks!

It should be warrantied up to 100K miles. If your in that cut off, then why spend money on an aftermarket one.. just get it warrantied. Even if your out of the cut off, call up HONDA and most likely they will do it under good will policy. I see that your new to the forum, so I'll just let you know that our cars have a history of transmission failures and that is why HoNDA has extended the transmission warranties.. just in case you didnt know this.
