Removing tinted front windows
I got pull over for tinted windows and cop told me that I have to remove or get record. I owned for 3 years and until now I thought mine was factory tinted as it look very smooth finish. So I checked it again and it true that it film on inside the glass.
How about your cars any films on from factory glass ?
How do I remove it myself? I think it not that easy as glue will be look messy around. Thanks.

I had a cop pull me over for "dark tint" on my TL, and even did a tint meter tester measurement. I had 15% tint job, and the machine had an 11% reading, meaning only 4% of the tint is imbedded in the factory glass. Normally the dealership is the one who will tint the car (also add $400 to the invoice) most don’t come tinted from factory.

I have been pulled over atlease 10 times for my tint being too dark. Everytime is a warning, I think it was just a reason to pull me over to make sure I am not sell drugs or anything.Mine tint is 20% all round I am going back to get the front Windshield done, legal tint limit In Tennessee is 35% Can't tint the front windshield LOL. I would just take it to a tint shop(they do it everyday) and let them do it or if you really want to do it I would take a hair dyer and some glue remover.

you can tell if the glass itself is tinted or if its a film by checking the upper edge of window- this is what cops do
If your fingernail catches an edge - or there is a visable edge (many places cut 1/4 inch off the top so it seals better) that means its got film on it.
Do NOT tint a front glass- that is so dangerous~
Yes, cops do need to be able to see inside- they are worried about weapons
To remove side window tint (rear window is way different job)
give a tint shop 20 bucks, or use a hair dryer or heat gun and blade
Less than 15 minutes per window and you are done,, go get the ticket signed off
Make a small, 6 inch area warm and get an edge loose with a razor blade and heat,
keep heating and pulling film back . keep it low, flat angle below 30 degrees and backing over itself for best results
It will break into pieces but thats what the razor blade is for
Rubbing alcohol removes the glue, then window cleaner to remove the streaks from that
Maybe it is worth a 20 for someone else to do it-- depending on your workspace, tools, time and desire

if you are going to retint afterwards, then let a shop remove it and get a package price.
otherwise, it's simple if you have the time and want to do it yourself
- use a NEW razor blade to assist in peeling off ALL of the tint film
- liberally spray windex on the sticky side of the glass
- adhere cling wrap or trash bag to the windex so it does not evaporate
- allow to soak, preferably with the sun out
- remove the wrap/bag and wipe off the glue with a towel; if needed, use a NEW razor to scrape
alternate, spray the windex as a lubricant for the razor...scrape immediately, no need to soak.

I was in the same position you were in last year. I just went to Home Depot and bought the smallest roll of window tint used for home windows. I cut a few pieces to make it look like I scraped in off the car. Took those to court and told the judge I removed the tint and how much time it took to remove. He let me off and I walked out not paying a dime.
Iv had my Tl for 8 years now and have only been pulled over once for the tints. It really was just a women cop at 2am that had nothing else better to do then pull me over and give me shit.

Tint laws are so wack. I mean, I get 5% all around is a bit much (wish I could do it lol) or something like that but here in GA, SUV's and Trucks can black out their windows as dark as they want. Last I checked, you can put a lot more thugs with guns in an SUV than a TL...
Best way to remove tint is using a steamer...heat up the film and the tint will separate from glue...best way is to keep it on longer so glue and tint literally fall off and then some quick windex or invisable glass cleaner and urr done

as soon as the topic comes up about tint no matter the location on the car, admit its illegal so the writing officer does not use the percentage reader on your window. Take the citation to court and tell the judge the officer didnt use the reader, and the ticket is thrown out and no points assessed. Plus you can keep your tint
trust, the majority of officers working in busy districts wont bother with non-moving violation tickets especially if theres no details or overtime out there to be had
